Phorus’s new PS5 speaker is small, yet powerful and performs spectacularly playing many different genres of music. The PS5 is tuned for peak performance with DTS post processing, enhancing bass without distortion at high volumes. The dual-core digital signal processor (DSP) and the Class-D digital amplifiers deliver incredible sound quality at every level. The PS5 also supports high-resolution lossless audio streaming, including 24 bit/192 kHz, in WAV, FLAC, and ALAC formats.
The PS5’s WiFi streaming is handled by the latest WiFi standards, 802.11a/b/g/n, which supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency bands. This can help avoid interference in high-traffic networks and ensures that you’ll always be able to listen to high-quality music without interruptions.
Phorus also allows whole-home features like simple setup and multi-room synchronization, plus premium features like multi-zone streaming. This allows you to send different songs to different rooms in the house with a touch of your finger on the Phorus app. You can also pair two PS5 speakers together in a left/right configuration in one room for even better stereo sound.
The Phorus PS5 is compatible with a ton of music streaming options, including Spotify, Pandora, Songza, SiriusXM, Tidal, Rhapsody, Amazon Music, iHeart Radio, Deezer, KKBox, and QQMusic. Plus, you have access to tons of AM/FM/Internet radio stations and podcasts. In addition, you can stream the music you store on your device or from any music server in your home via WiFi. You can even stream music from any application on a Windows PC via the DTS Play-Fi HD Driver. And last, but not least, PS5 is compatible with any application or service with Bluetooth or Airplay connectivity.
The Phorus PS5 weighs 2 lbs 5 oz and measures only 1.9 inches tall x 11.2 inches long x 4.9 inches deep. It’s a seriously small speaker for the excellent sound it produces. Plus, it looks gorgeous in its sleek oblong shape with the contrasting silver stripe down the middle. On top of the speaker, inside the silver stripe are the power button and volume up/down buttons as well as the WiFi on/off and Bluetooth on/off buttons. The front and rear of the speaker are covered in a black speaker fabric, while the back has an acoustic opening allowing for the deep bass to power through. Underneath the bass port are all of the adapter ports, including 3.5mm, USB, microUSB, power, and a reset button.
Inside the Phorus PS5 are 2 neodymium transducers and two Class D digital amplifiers that can pump out 90+ decibels. Included with the Phorus PS5 is the speaker itself as well as a power cable plus three plug adapters for North America, UK, EU, China, and Taiwan. Plus it also comes with a USB-A to microUSB cable.
During my testing, I listened to a few different genres of music to make sure that this speaker can be used by anyone, for anything. I listened to some Counting Crows, Death Cab for Cutie, The Postal Service, Notorious B.I.G., and Ray Charles. I’ve got to say that I was incredibly impressed with the range of the Phorus PS5 speaker. It performed very well no matter what genre I threw at it. While I don’t consider myself an audiophile, the sound quality of the PS5 felt great to me. You could hear all of the details of the music, the highs and the lows were clear.
The PS5 hits the right notes when it comes to sound quality and price. It easily fills up a medium-sized room with sound and it’s incredibly simple to set up. If you are looking for a simple multi-room sound setup or a single wireless speaker, you’ve got to check out the Phorus PS5!
