The new iPhone 12s are the best iPhones Apple has ever released. But they are pricey, with some models almost requiring you to take out a second mortgage. Protecting a device as expensive as the iPhone is more important than ever. Survivor offers four different levels of protection in a variety of colors and price points. Here’s a look.

Survivor offers four different types of cases, with pricing starting at just $19.99 and increasing in ten dollar increments as the protection the case offers increases. Let’s take a look at all four, beginning with the least expensive and moving up to the highly protective $49.99 offering. Formally the Griffin Survivor line of cases, the company has split off the line, which now stands on its own.

The Survivor Clear for iPhone 12

Activate a nearly invisible forcefield with the transparent protection of Clear. Simple, strong and transparent, Clear acts as a barrier between your phone and the journey ahead. Equipped with Parametric technology and a raised-edge bezel, it affords a pure view of the finish and features of your phone, while also providing the protection it needs. Activate your forcefield. Outfit your phone with Clear.

Like all the cases in this line, there is a model for each of the new iPhone 12s. The Survivor Clear is the least expensive. At $19.99 and available in your choice of clear or black, this case is a simple way to keep your new phone safe. It has new protective technology built into the bumper and has a raised edge to protect the screen, and it works with Apple’s new MagSafe technology. Best of all, this simple case delivers 6’ of drop protection so you can feel confident your phone stays safe.

An Uncanny Combination of Clarity and Strength: Clear provides a strong and transparent barrier to protect your phone, featuring Parametric pattern on the inner edges that is designed to reduce force from impact, providing drop protection up to 6ft.

Here’s a quick video look at the case.

Features:

  • 6 ft. of drop protection tested to military standards (MIL-STD 810G)
  • Shock-dampening Sidewall tech – Parametric Protection
  • Extended height raised-edge bezel protects the screen
  • Works with MagSafe charger and wireless charging
  • 5G compatible

The company summarizes this simple case stating, “Protective clarity in the palm of your hand, features a streamlined design in a slim, easy-to-handle shape.” I could not agree more. The Survivor Clear lets your iPhone’s gorgeous design come through while delivering a significant boost in durability. Check it out here.

Survivor Strong for iPhone 12

If you need a case that offers a bit more protection, you will want to check out Survivor Strong. Available in your choice of black, clear, navy, orange and cool cray, or purple and lilac, this $29.99 case protects phones from drops up to ten feet!

You want a minimal shape and profile, but not at the expense of protection. No problem. Strong’s sleek, streamlined profile defies the remarkable degree of strength and drop-protective features it boasts, like FortiCore™ protection technology, dual-layer construction and a raised-edge bezel. All the strength you need in a slim and ergonomic shape – that’s the power of Strong.

The Survivor Strong doesn’t feel that much more substantial than the Survivor Clear, yet it almost doubles the degree of drop protection.

Tactical Design. Expertly Engineered: Strong delivers on the unlikely combination of rugged, long-lasting construction and a slim, easy-to-handle shape

The serious protection offered by this case is due, in part, to the company’s FortiCore technology. This advanced shock-absorbing technology helps reduce force from drops by up to 40% compared to more “traditional” materials. In addition, the case has “a special parametric texture [that is] is applied to the sidewalls of the cases to work together with FortiCore to dampen impact even further.”

The result, as noted, is a minimalist case that can handle up to a ten-foot drop. Here’s our video look:

Features:

  • Two-layer construction
  • 10 ft. of drop protection tested to military standards (MIL-STD-810G)
  • FortiCore shock absorption technology
  • Extended height raised-edge bezel protects the screen
  • Works with MagSafe charger and wireless charging
    5G compatible
  • Guaranteed for Life

The Survivor Strong increases the projection you get compared to the Survivor Clear without adding too much weight or bulk. It is just $29.99 and is available for all of the new iPhone 12 models. Check it out here.

Survivor Endurance for iPhone 12

If the Survivor Strong still doesn’t offer enough drop protection, you can choose the Survivor Endurance. This $39.99 case is available in various colors and color combinations and, while it is still relatively thin and light, it protects from drops up to fourteen feet! This is due largely to the combination of the FortiCore shock absorption technology, the special parametric texture applied to the sidewalls of the cases, and works together with FortiCore to dampen impact even further AND three-layer construction. (The Clear had one-layer construction while the Strong had two-layer construction.)

As the company explains:

Meant to tackle life’s challenges, Endurance is built with an anytime, anywhere mentality. A combination of smart design and modern technologies give it an integrity few cases can match. Its grip-enhancing tech is designed to keep your case firmly in your hand, but if a drop should occur, rest easy knowing Endurance has what it takes to protect your phone from heights of up to 14 feet. And, like most action heroes, Endurance boasts strong lines and slim, rugged good looks as well. Ready to go and ready for anything – that’s Endurance.

The Endurance case also has antimicrobial protection and can eliminate and prevent 99.9% of surface bacteria and germs. This long-lasting antibacterial and antifungal protection won’t wear out or wash off and is more important right now than it has ever been.

Here’s our video look:

Finally, the Endurance may be a rugged case, but that doesn’t mean it can’t look good. This case is available in your choice of Black/Gray, Gray/Sky Blue, Navy/Flint Stone, Olive/Bone, Cloud Pink/Sky Blue. Each is $39.99.

Features:

  • Three-layer construction
  • 14 ft. of drop protection tested to military standards (MIL-STD-810G)
  • FortiCore shock absorption technology
  • Extended height raised-edge bezel protects the screen
  • Textured sides promote a sure-handed grip
  • Resists scratches & discoloration
  • Antimicrobial protection eliminates 99.9% of surface bacteria and germs
  • Works with MagSafe charger and wireless charging
  • 5G compatible
  • Guaranteed for Life

If you need serious drop protection but don’t want to lose your new iPhone’s thin, light look and feel, the Survivor Endurance may be the right case for you. Check it out.

Survivor Extreme for iPhone 12

The fourth and final case in this roundup is the Survivor Extreme. This is the case for those who need the best possible protection but don’t want to bury their phone in a huge, heavy block of a case. Available in Asphalt Black/Black or Navy/Rose Quartz, this case is $49.99 and performs the task of protecting iPhones from up to sixteen-foot drops.

Built to live up to its namesake, Extreme’s the case you want to take along on your toughest journeys, from the weekend adventure to the worksite and through every bump in the road. We poured everything we know about protection into Extreme. This case guards against harsh impacts, scrapes and scratches, dust and dirt, and microbes that lead to stains, odors and degradation. All that and Extreme is still incredibly slim and easy to handle. Made for those who aim to go further, this case is for you.

At $49.99, this is the most rugged and complex case in this roundup. Some of the features include:

  • Built Tough: Up to 16 feet of mil-spec drop protection backed up by FortiCore™ shock absorption technology and a four-layer construction.
  • Antimicrobial Protection: Antimicrobial protection that eliminates and prevents 99.9% of surface bacteria and germs while offering long-lasting antibacterial and antifungal protection that will not wear out or wash off.
  • Complete 360° Protection: The “outer” shell cradles and encompasses your screen to seal and secure your device. An ultra-strong base protects the sides and back of the device with a strong handhold and a FortiCore™ interior.
  • Extra Protection for Ports and Buttons: Extreme incorporates specially designed covers for ports and buttons to keep moisture, dust, and debris out.
  • Advanced Shock-Absorbing Technology: Survivor cases leverage our FortiCore™ technology to reduce force from drops up to 40% better than traditional materials. We didn’t stop there, as a special parametric texture is applied to the sidewalls of the cases to work together with FortiCore™ to dampen the impact even further.

Here’s our video look:

Specifications:

  • Four-layer construction
  • 16 ft. of drop protection tested to military standards (MIL-STD-810G)
  • FortiCore shock absorption technology
  • Encapsulated design plus raised-edge bezel provides screen protection
  • Textured sides promote a sure-handed grip
  • Covered ports protect from dust & dirt
  • Antimicrobial protection eliminates 99.9% of surface bacteria and germs
  • Works with MagSafe charger and wireless charging
  • 5G compatible

The Survivor Extreme offers an amazing degree of protection without looking or feeling like a bulky rugged case. It is probably more case than I would want to use, but it might be a worthwhile investment if you are prone to dropping your phone. Check it out here.

In all, I’m impressed with what Survivor has done here by releasing a line of cases that incrementally increase the degree of protection you get. If you want to go thin and light but still worry about your phone, you can get the Clear. If you constantly drop your precious pocket-computer, you might opt for the Extreme. And if you fall somewhere in-between, there are good options for you too. It is definitely worth checking out all the options. You can do that here.

Also, keep an eye out for our post-Black Friday case giveaway. We will have review samples of each of these Survivor cases as well as several other cases up for grabs.

What I Like: Available in a range of colors and degrees of protection; Even the most protective in the line doesn’t feel overly bulky; Some models offer anti-microbial protection

What Needs Improvement: Designs are simple and uninspired; These cases get the job done, but they look fairly utilitarian

  1. Have you experienced fingerprinting issues on the back of the case with the Strong? I ordered that model, however considering getting the Endurance instead as it looks more matte and less vulnerable to collecting fingerprints. Thanks!
