Winter is almost over, and we are all looking forward to spending time outside again. Of course, some pests make our time outdoors less enjoyable, mosquitoes being the worst! That’s okay; the new Thermacell LIV system promises to repel them, and it will work with Alexa and Google Assistant!

Scent-free, people, and pet-friendly, Thermacell LIV is a connected mosquito repellant system that can control those annoying blood-suckers in a space of about 945 square feet with the $699 base kit throughout the season. If you need to cover more extensive square footage, you can get the four-pack for $799 (up to 1,260 square feet) and the five-pack for $899 (up to 1,600 square feet).

LIV uses no batteries and no sprays, and it has smart programmable features so you can control the LIV system, set timers, set on & off schedules, and check your repellant cartridge levels right from the app.

Each all-season, waterproof and weatherproof repeller in the LIV system gives you a 20-foot zone of protection from even the toughest mosquitoes … you know, the ones that carry and transmit horrible diseases like Encephalitis, Chikungunya, West Nile Virus, and Zika Virus. :shudder:

The Thermacell LIV Smart Mosquito Repellent System is meant to be installed semi-permanently in your yard. It uses a solution containing 5.5% metofluthrin, an EPA-registered synthetic molecule modeled after a naturally occurring repellent found in chrysanthemum flowers, pyrethrum, the use of which, Thermacell says, goes back to ancient Egypt.

One of the cool things about the Thermacell LIV system is that since the devices releasing the metofluthrin are controlled by the app, when you aren’t outside, there’s no need to actively run the units, so they aren’t constantly releasing the pesticide.

This set-up seems like it would be kinder to other beneficial pollinating insects, like bees and butterflies, that would be affected if you had a pest control company blanket spray your yard once a month or if you were running constant mosquito misters.

Made to be odorless so that you can enjoy your time in the backyard without wondering, “what’s that smell?” the system runs on cartridges that have about a 40-hour life, with refills selling six for $120, or about $20 each.

LIV is a system, comprised of multiple components that work together to provide on-demand mosquito protection:

The Smart Hub powers and controls up to five (5) repellers, connecting to your home network unlocks LIV+ features.

Repellers are points of protection. Place these near areas you use most to protect larger, or multiple areas.

Repellent keeps the mosquitoes away, cartridges placed in repellers create protection zones that repel mosquitoes.
