Nine years ago, I needed a new mattress. That led to my first experience with a “bed in a box,” and I was impressed. Raina and I have tried a few different mattresses in the years since. But over time, one or the other of us has found faults with whatever mattress we were using, even if the other was sleeping okay on it. We’re optimistic that our latest, the Emma Original Mattress, will finally give us both a great night’s sleep.
My first bed in a box was a single-layer memory foam mattress. It was great, but we wanted a king-size bed when Raina and I married. We tried a bed in a box from two companies but were unhappy with them. We then purchased an expensive adjustable mattress. Raina loved it, but I was never comfortable.
Our most recent mattress has been okay for me, but Raina has always wanted to try something else. That “something else” is the Emma Original Mattress, and while I want to sleep on it for at least a month before offering a full review since it is steeply discounted right now, I thought it was worth checking out.
The Emma Original Mattress is available in Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, and California King, with regular retail prices ranging from $599 to $1325, depending upon the size selected. With the current discounts, those prices range from $299 to $659.
Emma offers several mattresses, but the Emma Original is their most affordable and best-selling model. The 10″ mattress has three different layers of thick, pressure-relieving foam. As a result, it can deliver, as the company puts it,
over 100 supporting points so that your body is fully supported. Feel your spine relax with the elastic Airgocell foam while being embraced by the adaptive Visco foam, and wake up feeling renewed and refreshed.
The different layers of material create what Emma refers to as a “point-elastic design” that supports different body parts while also helping maintain a straight spine. In addition, the mattress is topped with a breathable cover that is moisture-regulating to allow for better airflow; the cover also protects the mattress structure from sagging.
The result, the claim, is that you’ll wake up refreshed and ready to meet the day’s demands.
As they explain,
Emma smoothly combines high-quality materials to create a dream-like mattress that conforms to every body type. Through the combination of our extensive research and advanced foam technology, Emma offers the comfiest sleep possible. Emma mattresses offer comfort point-elastic caving that enables an ideal and unique fit for your body. As a result, your spine stays straight while at the same time offering you the necessary amount of support and comfort.
You can purchase the Emma Original Mattress with absolute confidence thanks to a 365-night free trial. If you don’t love the mattress after a year, the company will return your money! The company is that confident you’ll love the mattress.
If you decide to keep it, you can still be confident in your purchase since it has a ten-year warranty. I love companies that believe in their product and support that belief with consumer-friendly policies!
I got the Emma mattress for review some time ago, but due to various factors, I could not swap out my current mattress for it until recently. I’m sorry I didn’t do it sooner because, as I discovered, the company’s claims are spot on.
Setting the mattress up was ultimately quite simple. I removed my old mattress and moved the Emma mattress box on top of the bed platform in our room.
I cut the box and pulled away the cardboard. Inside was the mattress wrapped in layers of plastic that compressed it, so the mattress took up far less space than it ultimately would.
I removed the layers of thin plastic wrap to reveal a far thicker and stronger plastic layer. This helped maintain the proper compression and prevented the mattress from bursting out of the box during shipping.
Make sure you have someone handy to help you move it if you install one of the larger bed sizes, as the mattress is heavy and takes two people to move into place.
I carefully cut the thick plastic off of the mattress, and it immediately started to suck in the air and expand. Watching a mattress-in-a-box expand from a thin layer of material into a mattress always amazes me. It took a few minutes before a new, thick, king-size mattress sat on the bed platform.
I quickly discovered that the Emma Original Mattress was upside down, so I carefully flipped it over and rotated it so the strategically placed handles were along the sides.
I appreciate that the Emma Original Mattress has handles to make moving it easier, as the one it replaced doesn’t have such handles, and moving it was rather difficult.
The handles also offer the benefit of letting you know the proper orientation of the mattress. That’s especially important for you to get the full benefit of the support it is designed to offer.
It was at that point that I started to get worried. I like a firm mattress, and the Emma has a fair amount of “give.” I was especially concerned since I had just spent a week of blissful nights on a cruise with incredibly firm beds.
Then I slept on the Emma Original Mattress.
All I can say is, “Wow!!”
I didn’t struggle to find a comfortable position for the first time in a long time. Whether I lay on my back, my side, or my stomach, I always felt like my body was fully supported.
That first night, I slept blissfully without the tossing and turning that had become commonplace with the previous mattress. I also didn’t move between being too warm or too cool. I just… slept.
When morning came, I not only felt refreshed from a night of deep sleep, but I didn’t feel the stiffness that I had assumed was just the result of getting older.
In other words, the promise that the Emma mattress would offer “affordable luxury, transformative sleep” with “ingenious point-elastic design supports your body’s every curve and spine with unmatched precision.” held. I was a bit surprised, but I was also thrilled.
Raina and I were so pleased with the mattress we slept on during the cruise that we inquired whether it was available to consumers for their homes. It is but, unfortunately, it costs over $3500. Still, after being unhappy with the mattress we had been sleeping on for so long, we decided to purchase one.
But we would only so do, we decided, if we were unhappy with the Emma mattress once, we could finally try it. And, at almost $3000 less, I was hoping we would love the Emma.
Thankfully, we are happy with the Emma Original Mattress. It is comfortable. It helps regulate temperature during the night. And besides providing a good night’s sleep, I haven’t been waking up with the morning stiffness that plagues me. It’s a great mattress. And did I mention that at the time of this writing, the king-size mattress is on sale for $659?
If you are in the market for a new mattress or aren’t getting the quality night’s sleep you want and need, you owe it to yourself to check out the Emma Original Mattress. Thanks to the 365-day trial period, there’s no risk, and I think you’ll love it. I know I do!
The Emma Original Mattress starts at $599 for a Twin; it is available directly from the manufacturer.
