Overall
Pros

- MagSafe is very secure
- The FindMy integration is fantastic
Cons
- There is no place for cash
- The small number of cards it can handle may be an issue for some
I’ve always had a soft spot for Nomad products. Their chargers, cables, and cases are scattered all over my house and desk, and I use them daily without a second thought. Over the years, I’ve reviewed everything from their AirPods cases to their watch straps, and I’ve consistently been impressed by their attention to detail, premium materials, and no-nonsense design ethos. Their new Leather Mag Wallet continues that tradition but does something even better: it fits seamlessly into my current minimalist lifestyle. It’s not just another nice leather wallet from Nomad. This time, they’ve created something genuinely useful, innovative, and perfectly tailored to how I carry my essentials today.
A few years back, I reviewed one of Nomad’s traditional leather wallets. It was beautifully made and exuded quality, but by the time it arrived, I had already moved to using a minimalist wallet. As a result, while I admired the craftsmanship, it didn’t find its way into my daily carry. That’s changed.
Nomad recently introduced the Leather Mag Wallet, a sleek, minimalist wallet designed to snap securely onto the back of your iPhone using MagSafe. Not only is it thinner and lighter than their previous leather wallets, but it also includes built-in Find My support. That means if you misplace it, you can easily track its last known location using Apple’s native Find My app.
In short, Nomad took everything I’ve always loved about their gear — quality materials, smart design, and practical innovation — and brought it to a form factor that perfectly fits my current lifestyle. Let’s take a closer look.
Design and Materials
At first glance, the Nomad Leather Mag Wallet appears to be a simple card holder. But like most things Nomad makes, there’s more than meets the eye.
The outer shell is made from vegetable-tanned Horween leather sourced in the USA. If you’ve used Nomad leather products before, you know what this means: the leather starts smooth and clean but develops a rugged, rich patina over time that tells the story of how and where you’ve carried it. It’s the kind of aging that doesn’t wear down the product — it improves it.
If you’re looking for pristine perfection, this isn’t the wallet for you, but if you appreciate authentic patina, you’re in the right place.
Inside, there’s a polycarbonate frame that provides structure without adding unnecessary bulk. The wallet measures about 3.8 inches tall by 2.6 inches wide by 0.35 inches thick and weighs approximately 1.7 ounces. That’s about as compact as it gets while still offering meaningful functionality.
The Nomad Leather Mag Wallet securely holds 1 to 4 standard credit cards using an internal spring-loaded mechanism. I tested it with two cards, and they felt snug. They’re secure enough that I didn’t worry about them falling out, but not so tight that removing them feels like a wrestling match.
Unfortunately, there’s no way to carry cash, but that’s an issue with most minimalist wallets, and it’s a trade-off I’ve come to expect.
MagSafe & Compatibility
The Nomad Leather Mag Wallet is specifically designed for MagSafe and works exactly as advertised. The magnets are strong enough that it stays put on the back of the phone, even when I slip it in and out of my jeans pocket, but not so strong that it’s difficult to remove when I want to.
I tested it with several MagSafe-compatible cases, including Nomad’s own Rugged Case and Modern Leather Case, and it attached perfectly to each one. There’s no annoying sliding or accidental detachment; it just works. And in case you’re wondering, no, the magnets won’t demagnetize your cards. Nomad’s internal MagSafe array is designed for safe everyday use with all standard cards.
Find My Integration
Here’s where things get really interesting.
The Nomad Leather Mag Wallet has built-in Apple Find My integration, so if it ever gets left behind, tracking it down is as simple as opening the Find My app. While it doesn’t include Ultra-Wideband (UWB) like an AirTag (meaning you won’t get precise directional arrows guiding you to it), you can see its last known location on the map. If you’re within roughly 150 feet, you can play a sound to help locate it. And yes, it has a built-in speaker, just for that purpose.
Even better, the wallet is wirelessly rechargeable using any Qi or MagSafe charger.
A full charge gives you up to five months of battery life, and you can check its charge status at any time in the Find My app. Charging is simple: remove it from your phone, place it on your wireless charger, and it’ll top off in no time. That’s a brilliant touch that makes this wallet not just smart, but stress-free.
Real-World Use
I’ve been carrying the Nomad Leather Mag Wallet for about a week now, and it’s already become part of my daily routine. I’m currently on a small wilderness cruise in Alaska, and it’s the perfect way to keep my ID and credit card with me at all times without needing to carry a bulky wallet.
It’s thin enough that it doesn’t add noticeable bulk to the phone. It’s stylish enough that it doesn’t detract from the look of my iPhone or case. And it’s useful enough that I don’t need to carry a separate wallet most days.
The Leather Mag Wallet is perfect for quick errands, daily commutes, or nights out when I don’t want to carry much. And knowing that I can always track it down using Find My is a huge bonus. I’ve been using an AirTag with my keys for a while now and have appreciated the peace of mind it brings. Having that same functionality built into a wallet just makes sense.
Setup and Use Tips
Setting up Find My is straightforward. To check if it’s enabled, double-click the button on the wallet — it will play a tune if paired. To enable Find My, press and hold the button for five seconds until it chimes. If you ever need to reset it, press the button five times quickly to power off or follow Nomad’s factory reset instructions to restore it fully.
Should You Get One?
At $79 (currently on sale for $67), the Nomad Leather Mag Wallet isn’t inexpensive, but it’s also not trying to be. This is a premium, thoughtfully designed piece of gear for people who appreciate quality materials, modern functionality, and minimalist design. It’s available in Rustic Brown (my review sample) or Black, although Black is currently out of stock.

What I Like: Perfect for someone who is used to a minimal carry; MagSafe is very secure; The FindMy integration is fantastic
What Needs Improvement: There is no place for cash; The small number of cards it can handle may be an issue for some

If I was going to a concert this might be a good idea because I only need to carry one or two credit cards. But for normal use all my credit cards wouldn’t fit.
So important to have a quality wallet these days. This sounds like a good one. Thanks for the review.
It’s a nicely designed wallet. It looks classy and elegant. I normally just carry two cards with me when I go out. My driver’s license and a credit card. This wallet is perfect for carrying those two cards. In addition to the aesthetic appeal, I like that the wallet has Find My built in. This is great in case I lose my wallet. The only issue that I have with the wallet is that it does not have RFID blocking protection to protect my credit and debit cards.
Great looking wallet. I like the “find my” feature.
