The Lowdown

Do you ever wonder what’s going on inside your ears, nose, and throat? Sometimes, if I’m very lucky, my ENT shows me, but otherwise it’s a mystery of piping and, well, snot and wax. Bebird doesn’t want you to have to wait for your next specialist appointment to get a glimpse of this forbidden land, and the EarSight Ultra X will help you safely peek and clean those very hard-to-glimpse spaces!

Before we even get into how it works, the brand deserves immense praise for its packaging and organization. The Bebird EarSight Ultra X comes in a very sleek case that holds several basic accessories and a tray that holds another set beyond that. Everything fits together well and keeps a compact footprint. This can easily stay in a first-aid drawer or ride along for a trip, and you never need to worry that you misplaced a key component.

It can be charged via USB-C, and they did helpfully include one, just in case you don’t already have enough in your junk drawer. Officially the battery is rated to last around 80 minutes between charges, and we’ve turned it on and off several times over the course of the review period and haven’t needed to charge it once.

So, on to using the Bebird EarSight Ultra X. Most doctors will tell you not to put anything bigger than your finger in your ears, so please use your judgment and be careful. In our testing experience, the EarSight Ultra X seemed well designed to get you into your ears (or nose, or throat) and not cause harm, but it’s an important disclaimer that anytime you’re sticking anything in your ears, you’re doing so at your own risk.

Having said that, this might be the coolest medical device we’ve seen here in a long time. There’s a 4K video camera attached to the end so you can really see your earwax in HD. Pairing it with the app was quite simple and smooth (we tested it with iOS, but it is also compatible with Android), and once it’s connected, you can use the video feed to guide the device.

I was able to clean out my own ears and also used the Bebird EarSight Ultra X to guide me through my son’s ears. He’s 12, and after reviewing how it worked, he was able to use it on his own ears as well, though I would strongly suggest only allowing a kid to use it under direct adult supervision.

It led to a few immediate takeaways. One, my son’s ears are much cleaner than mine. Second, I have scarily hairy ears. It was oddly satisfying both emotionally and physically to carefully remove the wax from my ears. Like a real-life version of the board game Operation, but thankfully no one gets electrocuted if you hit the wrong spot.

Bebird provides so many accessories that it can be overwhelming. But they’re all thoughtfully designed to make it easy and safe to use. They include five sets of ear picks so everyone in the family can have their own color-coded reusable accessories, as well as 24 one-time use sponge and sticky ear picks for ear wax removal.

Squeeze the sides, and the tweezers contract. Scary to consider using in your ears, but very effective!

There’s more than just earwax removers, though. There are tweezers for precision work, an attachment to make it easier to look inside your nose, and a special tongue depressor attachment to see the back of your throat. And if you need to get eardrops deep inside someone’s head, there’s an eardrop attachment as well, so you can watch the drops go in and make sure they’re in the correct spot.

This is an up-close look at a wool hat!

Now, the Bebird EarSight Ultra X actually has another function besides just being an impressive way to clean your ears. The device itself has a 4K camera that can get up to 3X magnification, meaning this can double as almost a pocket microscope. It’s not the same as a real microscope, obviously, but you can capture some very cool close-ups of items and materials with it. Obviously, if you choose to use it this way, make sure to wipe it down with isopropyl alcohol before letting it back near your face!

Within the app you can also snap photos or even take video of what you’re seeing through the feed. You can do what I did immediately and send horrifying pictures of your earwax and ear hairs to your friends, or you can share them with a medical professional. Maybe you’re trying to determine whether an ear infection is on the mend or whether your tonsils seem swollen, and you want a second opinion. Now you can easily capture that in high definition and send it along to someone who knows what they’re looking at!

Bebird makes some claims about how regular ear cleaning can improve your hearing over a five-year period, but that’s a hard one to prove without scientific backing. But it is true that earwax buildup can be uncomfortable, and as Bebird points out, being able to get into your ears means you can clean out everything from dust to water buildup from swimming and do so easily and safely.

The Bebird EarSight Ultra X is a lot more expensive than a box of Q-Tips, but significantly cheaper than repeat copays at the ENT to clear out your waxy ears, especially since you can share it with several family members!

The Bebird EarSight Ultra X retails for $109.99; it is available directly from the manufacturer.

  1. Sounds interesting, I’ve always heard Q-tips don’t belong in your ears, so something like this is probably a bit safer to use.

  2. This looks way safer and smarter than the old tools I’m used to. The camera feature alone makes it worth it.

  3. This will be a great tool for the whole family.

  4. Goodbye cuetips and ear flushes. I need to try this!

  5. Not sure we need tech for everything – can see it’s usefulness but is it really worth it over a q-tip?

  6. I think this would be great to have. Anything that makes cleaning the gunk out of my ears easier and safer is definitely a win for me!
