All the data is yours and stored locally. You get to choose when and if to share it with your health professional. You can export data from the app or use it to share directly with your healthcare provider.

How Does It All Work?

Casana Smart Seat Sensors

Three unique sensors are embedded in the Smart Seat: single-lead electrocardiogram (ECG), photoplethysmogram (PPG), and load cell-derived ballistocardiogram (BCG). The seat is battery-powered. Casana claims that the battery will last several years, and they will ship replacements as needed.

You install the Casana Smart Seat in place of your regular seat using the two standard bolts and holes found in every toilet bowl/seat. It only fits an elongated bowl. They have a compatibility guide on their website. You don’t need a plumber or a handyman, and that’s great.

After that, once you install the app, you just sit as usual. Your health metrics are automatically recorded, easy-peasy. No hook-ups. No cuffs. No cords or cables. It couldn’t be easier.

Does It Actually Work?

I can say from personal experience, yes! My wife and I were part of two clinical trials for the seat. We visited the testing facility and stepped behind a curtain. They hooked us up with blood pressure cuffs and took simultaneous measurements as we dropped our pants and sat down.

What struck us was how simple this seat was to use and the volume of information it gathered with zero effort from the user. The Smart Seat is not intended for, and has not been tested on, pregnant women, people under 18 years old, people under 90 lbs or greater than 350 lbs, people with persistent arrhythmias, or people with pacemakers.

What Does It Cost?

Casana is offering an Early Bird special at the moment. The Smart Seat will run you $199. That includes one year of their monitoring subscription. After the first year, it will cost $9.99 per month. You can cancel at any time and keep the seat.

If you or a loved one has a need to regularly monitor heart rate, blood pressure, or other metrics that the Smart Seat can record, and you’re tired of messing with difficult devices, then the Casana Smart Seat might be worth a look.

The Casana Smart Seat retails for $199 plus $9.99/month after the first year; it is available directly from Casana.
