“I can’t today, I have to wait for the cable man” is one of those phrases that creates immediate sympathetic dread. It’s as much a pop culture trope as it is a real inconvenience. But Xfinity, in its quest to prove the cable company isn’t actually out to get you, is rolling out a way to deliver faster internet on your schedule. Their new same-day Gateway delivery service means you can sign up for internet in the morning and have yourself up and running and down a TikTok rabbit hole before dinner.

I’ve had soup delivered via DoorDash with less care than this router.
Right now, the Gateway delivery service is being tested in 20 markets, so if you live in Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Nashville, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and other markets that weren’t broken out in the press release, you can get same-day service. And if you aren’t a lucky resident of those areas, over 700 Xfinity store locations will also offer same-day pickup of the Gateway equipment. You will need to put on pants to go to the store, but it’s a minor sacrifice for ultra-fast Wi-Fi.

Xfinity Gateway is designed to make setting up and managing your Wi-Fi easy. It offers advanced security features, including a secure Xfinity hotspot for guests so you don’t have to share your Wi-Fi password, as well as additional security options in the Xfinity app. It also lets you refine how different devices access the internet, so your gaming rig won’t slow down because someone else is downloading a book on their Kindle.
Another Xfinity perk: if you’re a new Xfinity internet customer, you also get one year of Xfinity Mobile, allowing you to combine your mobile plan and home internet into one bundle. Xfinity often offers perks on new phones, as well as access to Xfinity-branded 5G hotspots all over, so it’s worth a comparison if you’re a new customer!
We’re all used to home internet setup being a headache, but Xfinity is working hard to make it easy to set up AND fit into your schedule. Their Gateway delivery service is a far cry from the days of “the tech will arrive between 12am and 11:59pm, knock exactly 1/32nd of a second, and leave if you don’t answer the door”!
