Sun Mountain H2NO C130 Waterproof Cart Golf Bag Review: Rainproof Performance with One Maddening Flaw

Golf plays a significant role in my life. I’m not exceptionally good at it, but I enjoy the social side of the game. Living in the world’s largest golfing community, with 837 holes as of this writing, means there’s no shortage of opportunities to play. Central Florida also brings plenty of rain, and rain and golf equipment are not friends. Sun Mountain’s new H2NO family of golf bags aims to keep them apart. Let’s see how the Sun Mountain H2NO C130 Waterproof Cart Golf Bag handles your gear and the elements.

An Update on a Solid Design

A golf bag is a golf bag, right? Well, yes, and no. I’ve had a number of golf bags over the years, and cheap golf bags are just that, cheap. Zippers fail, there aren’t enough pockets to store your stuff, and if you get caught in the rain, everything in the bag gets soaked.

My most recent bag was another Sun Mountain C130 bag that I bought in 2018. It’s still going strong eight years later, albeit a little faded from the relentless Central Florida sun. It wasn’t waterproof, so if it started raining, while it helped, my gear would still get wet. It also didn’t have enough pockets, so I jammed some with different items and had to fish through them to find what I wanted.

This new Sun Mountain H2NO C130 Waterproof Cart Golf Bag follows most of the same great design tips, improving on most, except for one notable one that I’ll get to, and it adds some terrific waterproofing that is a game-changer.

Let’s take a closer look at the features of this bag.

Design and Features

This bag arrived for testing in early August, 2026. I really got a fresh one, as this inspection certificate was tucked into one of the pockets.

The Sun Mountain H2NO C130 Waterproof Cart Golf Bag comes in two colors, black and the spiffy Black-Nickel-Steel-Red version that I was sent. I think that it is a great-looking bag. It weighs in at just about six pounds, making it reasonably light for a cart bag. While weight isn’t a big deal once it’s on a golf cart, hoisting it up and onto the cart is much easier with a lightweight bag.

Most of the nine pockets are right there on the front of the bag, where you want them. There are a couple of smaller pockets on the top, a larger pocket below that, a large foil-lined cooler pocket below that, and a pair of large pockets at the bottom. If you look closely, you’ll see snaps just to the right and left of that top pocket to secure the rain cover. Notice how wide that spacing is. I’ll come back to that.

The top pockets can hold a laser rangefinder, tees, a few golf balls, a divot tool, and such. The rangefinder pocket is velour-lined to help protect expensive electronics and optics.

The cooler pocket is lined with foil fabric and is also vented to let condensation evaporate. It can hold several cans of your favorite course beverage. In my testing, it didn’t appear to be insulated, so I recommend adding a freezer pack or ice to keep your beverages at their frosty best. The pocket is ventilated so any residual moisture can evaporate.

The left side has a small external pocket and a full-length apparel pocket, both with water-sealed zippers. You can also see the towel clip loop and Velcro glove holder at the top. You can see one of the rain cover snaps just to the right of the glove holder (hand icon).

The small pocket has a handy key ring lanyard.

The full-length apparel pocket holds rain gear, a sweater, or other inclement-weather wear in waterproof comfort.

The right side is similar, with a small external pocket, another full-length pocket, another towel ring, and a Velcro glove holder. You can see the other snap for the rain cover to the left of the glove holder.

This small pocket is lined with soft fabric to protect valuables.

The second large pocket can hold more clothes or other large accessories.

Here’s a look at the back of the bag. There is a grab handle and a nicely padded shoulder strap. An umbrella cinch-strap and sleeve are visible on the left side.

You can also see the remaining two snaps for the rain cover. Note how closely they are spaced. Don’t worry, my obsession with these snaps will be clear in a moment.

The Sun Mountain H2NO C130 Waterproof Cart Golf Bag’s rain cover attaches to the bag with four snaps. Two on the front are widely spaced. Two on the back are more narrowly spaced. This means that the cover can only go on in one orientation. The dual-zipper design lets you easily access the clubs while still protecting them from the elements.

Mounting your bag on your golf cart typically involves wrapping the cart’s strap around your bag. This usually renders one or more of the pockets inaccessible. Sun Mountain realized that and thoughtfully provided channels under the pocket extensions for the golf cart strap to pass through. This lets you secure your bag while not blocking access to any of the pockets.

I’ve talked about all the places to put your golf accessories. What am I forgetting? The clubs! The bag’s main space is reserved for your clubs. It is divided into 14 individual, fully lined slots, one for each of the allowed 14 clubs. The top slot is wide and can hold your driver along with perhaps a ball retriever. The remaining slots are sized for single clubs. The large red slot at the bottom holds a putter with an oversized grip. Everything is lined and padded to help protect expensive graphite shafts from damage. The two side grips are great for grabbing the bag.

Okay, it’s time to address my obsession with the snaps. On my old C130, the rain cover was designed to attach so that it unzips from the front. When you unzip it, you can fold the cover back toward the bag. This lets you tuck it out of the way, giving you easy access to all the front pockets.

The Sun Mountain H2NO C130 Waterproof Cart Golf Bag’s cover, however, is backward. It unzips from the back. When you unzip it, it can only be folded forwards, meaning that it covers the top pockets, rendering them inaccessible. I don’t get it. It makes no sense whatsoever. And it’s not like I have the rain cover installed backward. The spacing of the snaps guarantees that you can’t do that.

While I really like the bag’s design, the rain cover is a complete misfire from Sun Mountain. If the snaps were installed the other way on the cover, it would have matched the old design, which was perfect.

How Does It Perform on the Course?

That’s a complicated question, mainly because of the silly rain cover. Overall, the Sun Mountain H2NO C130 Waterproof Cart Golf Bag performs very well. It’s light enough that hoisting it onto my golf cart is easy. The strap pass-through slots mean that the bag is secure without the strap being in the way. My clubs are nicely protected in their individual, padded sleeves. My putter, with its thick grip, slides in and out of the large putter slot easily.

The pockets are well sized and divided, letting me divvy out my tees, golf balls, divot tool, and other on-course items for easy retrieval without digging through a messy pouch. The cooler section is a nice touch, letting me toss in a few sodas on a hot day. The fact that it isn’t insulated means that I will also need to toss in an ice pack if I want them to remain cold for 18 holes, but that’s easy to do.

But then, there’s the rain cover…

As I said, the rain cover design for this bag is 180° opposite of my other Sun Mountain bag. Rather than unzipping and tucking it out of the way in the back, I am forced to bunch it up in the front, eliminating easy access to the pockets at the top of the golf bag. No matter how I look at it, I can’t come up with a reasonable explanation for why they would design it this way. Like many golfers, I leave the rain cover attached all the time, because having to snap it in place if it starts raining is too inconvenient. With it in place, a quick zip protects the clubs in seconds.

I thought it seemed so ridiculous that I called Sun Mountain. I explained what was happening and was told that even though the C130 H2NO bag and the C130 bags share the same name, they are in fact different designs. The C130, like my old C130, is designed for riding golf carts. The C130 H2NO is based on an old design that was made for pull carts. With the bag lying at an angle, unzipping from the back sort of makes sense. So this was no accident. It was intentional, and in my opinion, it is a huge design flaw.

The silly design notwithstanding, the cover and the bag itself performed perfectly the other day when I got caught in a downpour. The waterproofing on the rain cover and the bag, plus the waterproof zippers, protected my clubs and everything else in the bag from getting soaked. The only casualties were my towels that were hanging outside the bag, but those dry easily.

The rain just beaded up and ran off the bag.

Final Thoughts

I really like the Sun Mountain H2NO C130 Waterproof Cart Golf Bag, but I don’t love it. The well-designed storage, the cooler, the eye-catching design, its light weight, and its water resistance are all great things. But that rain cover is going to be a headache every time I play golf. The other thing not to love about the Sun Mountain H2NO C130 Waterproof Cart Golf Bag is that it sells for a cool $400.

A quick search reveals that there are several waterproof bags out there in the $200-$300 range, making this Sun Mountain bag fall into the premium category. The bag’s features might justify the high price, but the rain cover makes me angry every time I play. If only I could reach out to Inspector 333 and have them make me a backward rain cover…
