Cybex Sirona M with SensorSafe 2.0: The Car Seat That Saves Lives

How many more stories are we going to read about parents forgetting about their sleeping child in the back seat? How many more senseless deaths are going to occur due to a 100% preventable situation? We all know that car seats save lives, but the Cybex Sirona M with SensorSafe 2.0 has developed the technology to take that pledge even further.

With the Sirona M with SensorSafe 2.0 convertible car seat, Cybex was able to harness the power of technology to re-imagine car seat safety. In fact, the Sirona won Good Housekeeping’s “The Best of BabyTech” award in 2018. Additional awards include: Best Convertible Car Seat for 2018, Best in Show at the 2018 Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA) Baby Show.

The Sirona M’s most unique safety feature is that it connects with the car, enabling it to send audible alerts to the driver along with cell phone alerts. The Sirona M comes with a receiver that you easily install under the car’s steering wheel in the OBD port. One of the main features of SensorSafe is that once the car is turned off, a chime sounds to remind the driver that a child is still buckled into the car seat. With this feature, sleep-deprived parents and distracted caregivers can rest assured that they won’t forget about their little ones sleeping in the back.

If for some reason the chime doesn’t work or the driver doesn’t hear it, Cybex has a backup security alert via the user-friendly cell phone app. If no action is taken to remove the child from the car, the app will alert emergency contacts about the child still buckled into the car seat along with the location of the car. SensorSafe also alerts the driver if the child unbuckles the chest clip while driving, if the child is seated for a prolonged period of time, and if the temperature gets too high or too low.

Additional safety features include the adjustable Linear Side Impact Protection System (L.S.P.) and energy absorbing shell. The L.S.P. is an extendable platform located on either side of the car seat that, when engaged, “can absorb up to 25% more impact forces in a side-impact collision in combination with the head and shoulder protectors.” This is another one of the unique features that the Cybex Sirona has built in. The solid, energy absorbing shell is designed to “reduce the impact forces felt by the child in a collision.”

We were already using the Cybex Cloud Q for our infant, so we put the Sirona to use with our almost 4-year old daughter who weighs about 36 pounds. The forward facing installation was simple and no different from most other modern car seat installations. The latches were easy to locate and clip into the seat. The Sirona also touts a no-rethread harness, which is a must-have feature, especially if you’ve ever had to rethread a harness!

For those of you who don’t know what rethreading is, it’s when you have to manually adjust the shoulder straps to fit your growing child. Such an adjustment requires that you remove the car seat from the car and often times, remove padding, too. The no-rethread harness, on the other hand, allows you to simply grip a lever at the top of the car seat and pull up to make the should straps longer – no car seat removal required! There are 12 different levels for adjusting the shoulder straps, which helps parents ensure that the seat always provides the perfect fit.

Another adjustability function the Cybex Sirona M has is the one-hand adjustable recline. The Sirona can be reclined to 10 different positions with just one hand, allowing the perfect fit for both safety and for your vehicle.

In addition to the simple installation and harness adjustments, the Sirona’s straps almost never get twisted and tangled! When the child is not in the car seat, you can utilize the magnetic belt holders on the sides of the seat so they make entry into the car seat much easier. The shoulder pads at the top of the straps are actually sewn into the car seat and the strap, which is what keeps the straps in the correct position at all times. I can’t tell you how many times the shoulder straps have gotten twisted in our other car seats, but never in our Cybex Sirona M. Aside from being a major annoyance, twisted straps actually pose a safety issue, and if there is one thing Cybex does well, it’s build and manufacture safe car seats.

The Sirona M comes with a removable cup holder that mounts to the side of the car seat, facing the seat next to the child instead of the front of the car like many other car seats. The location of the cup holder is helpful if you have kids, like mine, who often like to climb through the back seat and need that extra room in between the front seats and the back seats. The cup holder can be positioned on either side of the car seat and is dishwasher safe.

The unbeatable safety features partnered with the impressive design of the car seat make the Cybex Sirona M with SensorSafe 2.0 a car seat that all parents should consider using. The aesthetics are exceptional and the feel of the material is luxurious. The car seat cover is plush, soft, and smooth as silk.  I’m jealous that my kids get to sit in it and I don’t!

Last week, I asked my daughter if she wanted me to switch car seats so she could use the one we had installed before the Cybex. She smiled and said, “No, thanks. I like this one.“

The Sirona M car seat is rated for use from birth to 65 lbs. Rear-facing installation is for children from 5 to 40 pounds while front-facing installation is for children from 22 to 65 pounds.

If you’re in the market for a new car seat, you’ve got to check out Cybex’s Sirona M car seat. It’s ahead of the game in safety features…and what’s more important than the safety of our children? It’s extremely soft and comfortable, installs easily, and is simple to adjust as your child grows. What more can you hope for in a car seat?

Ever since I picked up an NES controller, I've been hooked on the latest and greatest gadgets, gizmos, and toys.
