For some time I have been using a backpack as my gear bag.  I like the backpack because it provides tons of room and lets me hold onto my college youth of backpacking around campus.  My main backpack has been the Everki Beacon laptop that I reviewed here.  I loved the quality and features of the Beacon so when I had a chance to review two new Everki bags I jumped at the chance.  I was actually ready for a change to a messenger style bag to bring a bit of professional style to my daily gear travels.  The Track messenger bag is perfect to use as an everyday laptop bag or even a general use bag for those who do not carry a computer.  As with all of Everki’s products, the Track contains many intuitive features that help set it apart and make it more usable than other similar messengers.  Lets take a look.

Features:

  • Accommodates up to 15.6” laptops
  • Padded ultra-soft computer nest to guard against bumps
  • Soft fine-felt lined iPad/Kindle/tablet pocket
  • Extra-padded, ergonomic, non-slip shoulder pad
  • Two-way adjustable shoulder strap
  • Trolley handle pass-through pocket
  • High contrast lining makes items easy to find
  • Self-healing zippers
  • Backed by Everki’s Limited Lifetime Warranty and world-class customer service

The Track looks similar to the average messenger bag.  The front flap closes just like any other bag but it also uses a strip of velcro to stay in place.  The inside of the flap has a one piece strip of velcro that attaches to two separate strips on the bag itself.  This insures a perfect fit each time not requiring the user to line up separate velcro strips.  For added security, the bag can be locked closed using two unique Everki buckles.  I have used these buckles in other products and have come to appreciate their design and function.  The buckle is designed to slide into a small loop at the bottom.  Once the buckle slides in and snaps into place, they are virtually locked and will not open on their own.  All of your gear will remain safe and secure.

For carrying, the Track sports a large padded, non-slip shoulder strap that allows for dual adjustments.  Once adjusted to the user perfectly, the padded strap will contour to the shoulder dispersing the weight and making the bag easier to carry.  Trust me, you will see how much stuff I carry in mine and this feature is a must.  On the back of the bag is a low profile handle.  I refuse to use a bag without a handle and was worried when I fist opened the box that the Track was without one.  The clever design of the handle is placed at location that is out of the way, but also maximizes weight distribution.  The handle is low profile and is virtually not seen when not in use.

A unique and thoughtful feature is located on the back side of the bag.  A small pocket is available that will velcro shut to carry file folders or important papers.  The unique feature of the pocket is the fact that it can double as a trolley strap for rolling luggage.  The bottom of the pocket is a zipper and when open can allow the bag to be set onto the handle of a rolling suitcase making traveling much easier and more convenient.  These types of features are what I love about Everki products.

Just under the flap is a large pocket.  This is where I keep my pens, pencils and high lighters.  The outside of this pocket also contains more storage areas.  On the right side is a 4 inch by 6 inch pocket which is held closed by a velcro flap.  I am storing various items in this pocket including some flash drives, an iPhone battery charger and a couple of USB cables.  To the left are some layered pockets for storing business cards and various flat items.  I currently have not been using these pockets for anything since I mostly go paperless now and days.

The inside of the bag is quite spacious.  The laptop pocket is well padded and can hold up to a 15.6 inch laptop.  I currently carry my 13 inch MacBook Pro with no problems.  The Inside of the compartment is a soft orange fleece material that will also help protect your device.  The added padding is important when carrying a computer all day.  My favorite feature of the Track is the addition of an iPad sleeve connected to the laptop compartment.  Now, I have a perfectly sized spot to carry my iPad with me anytime I want.  Genius idea!  To add to security, a strap is available to tighten down both the laptop and the iPad.  The strap works flawlessly and is quick and easy to open and close.  Next to the iPad sleeve is another smaller sleeve that can be used for carrying a wireless mouse.  I no longer use a mouse, so I carry my external hard drive in this pocket.  Again, these added pockets keep extra devices safe and out of the way during transport.

The remainder of the bag still provides some room to carry everyday items.  I am carrying some bluetooth headphones, a laptop speaker bar and various cords and cables.  A zippered side pouch can be used to carry any extra items including power supplies and odds and ends.  I have this pouch packed full of USB drives, more cords and a WiFi travel router.  I just keep my power supply in the bottom of the main compartment of the bag.  With the features of the added compartments for my devices, the main part of the bag is just like carrying a bag without anything else inside providing plenty of room.

After just a short time of using the Track Laptop Messenger bag, I have come to love the style and features and use it on a daily basis.  The fact that I can safely carry all of my devices and know they are secure and safe in side the bag is great.  To a passer-by, I am just carrying a messenger bag like many people do to work.  You cannot tell there are compartments for my laptop, iPad and spare drives.  I am truly a mobile geek station with my Everki bag!  My wife couldn’t believe how heavy my bag was and wondered what all I had in that thing.  Well, here is everything I have been carrying successfully on a daily basis.  Check out the features on the Everki site along with all of their other products.  Here is a shot of the gear the bag carries!

MSRP: $69.99  Available at Amazon for $53.99.

What I like: Thoughtful features make this bag perfect for anyone with a gear addiction.  I love the special compartments and the styling.

What could be improved: I could actually use another pocket on the outside where the business card holders are located.  Of course I carry too much stuff!
