Travel HoodiePillow Hooded Travel Pillow

Welcome to part two of my two-part hooded pillow review humiliation. In Part One I came clean and related that, while still watching the good folks from HoodiePillow make their pitch on SharkTank, I ordered a hooded pillow case from them. The HoodiePillow is a quality pillowcase made from sweatshirt material. What makes this pillow case special is that, as the name indicates, it has a hoodie built right into it. And as if that wasn’t enough, the HoodiePillow also has drawstrings, a pocket for your phone or mp3 player and a cable pass-through so the headphones can run from the phone to your ears inside the pillow case. Thanks to some specific design aspects of the product, I like the HoodiePillow — but don’t love it. (If you haven’t read the review of that product, feel free to click here and check it out.)

As it turns out the HoodiePillow wasn’t the only thing I ordered that night. You see, I ordered a HoodiePillow, and I pre-ordered one of their upcoming Travel HoodiePillow Hooded Travel Pillow. Yes, one HoodiePillow really wasn’t enough! That product was not yet available, but I was willing to be patient. Was it worth the wait? Read on to find out.

The Travel HoodiePillow is a HoodiePillow and one of those travel pillows for your neck all rolled into one. As the company explains, the Travel HoodiePillow Hooded Travel Pillow “is perfect for road trips, business traveling, lunch break napping, and for anyone looking for a little privacy or shut-eye no matter where they are”. Yes, the Travel HoodiePillow offers “cocoonification” (their word not mine) while you are on the road or in the air.

Inside the Travel HoodiePillow Hooded Travel Pillow is an inflatable pillow that wraps around your neck. The valve doesn’t do a great job of keeping the air from backing out when you are trying to inflate it, so it took me a few tries before I was able to get it as full as I wanted. That doesn’t speak well of the quality of the inflatable pillow inside but, since then, it has worked well enough.

Wrapped around the inflatable travel pillow is a hoodie with adjustable drawstrings. These can be pulled gently around your head for warmth or, if you need to block out the world and guarantee some privacy, you can pull them tighter and truly wrap yourself inside.

Like its big brother, the Travel HoodiePillow is made from premium sweatshirt material and is hand-washable. The company notes that the Travel HoodiePillow:

Is great for travel, road trips and even at home

Includes 2 drawstrings to adjust head size and level of comfort

Is good for use while reading, watching TV, studying, listening to music, napping and sleeping

Includes pillow insert that deflates and folds for easy storage

Is hand washable.

I was mixed on the original HoodiePillow, but I actually love the Travel HoodiePillow. The original HoodiePillow is fine, but it can be a bit restrictive of movement since the hood is attached to a heavy pillow. That means when you move the hoodie moves with you to a point, and then it stops. More than once I found it a bit awkward when I tried to shift position in any significant way. By contrast, since it is the Travel HoodiePillow that wraps around your neck and sits on you, it moves as you move. The neck pillow is comfortable and supports my neck fairly well when I lean back. Yes, the valve seems a bit cheap, but it works fine once the pillow is inflated. And the hoodie… well the hoodie does exactly what it should do… it hoodie-fies your head. The Travel HoodiePillow is more comfortable for general use at home, and it is great for train or plane travel where it not only supports your hear but also sends the clear message that you don’t want to hear the life story of the person sitting next to you. It may look strange, but the Travel HoodiePillow is actually a winner. You can learn more and order yours here.

MSRP: $19.96

What I Like: Packs small for easy transportation; Pillow and hoodie move with you making it more comfortable than the HoodiePillow; Made from comfortable sweatshirt material

What Needs Improvement: Pillow valve isn’t of the highest quality and makes inflating it a challenge
