This weekend AT&T trotted out a  promotion effective  September 28, 2014 through October 31, 2014 offering to double some data allotments. Users must be on a 15 GB or higher AT&T Mobile Value plan, and existing users may have to call AT&T to have their plan upgraded. In some cases  the plan may not appear online for existing users.
AT&T Doubles 15 GB and Higher Shared Data Plans

Here are the details from AT&T’s press release:

Beginning Sunday, Sept. 28, AT&T is offering new promotional Mobile Share Value plans that include double the amount of data offered on Mobile Share Value plans with 15GB to 50 GB of data. New and existing customers who proactively sign-up by October 31* get 30GB of data for the price of 15GB** – perfect for families and small business customers. AT&T customers will benefit from this offer, which includes domestic unlimited talk and text, as well as unlimited international messaging from the U.S. to select countries.

In addition, AT&T is continuing to offer $100 bill credits for adding a new smartphone line of service.

The new promotional plan may be applied to groups of up to 10 people on the same shared plan. According to AT&T this offer expires October 31, 2014, though I think we’ll have to wait and see just how stringent they are at applying the deadline.

While 30 GB may seem like a large amount of data, those of us with kids on a shared data plan will undoubtedly welcome the extra data wiggle room!  The extra data may come in handy for those who share data via the WiFi hotspot on their phones (included in Shared Value plans) to their computer or tablet.

This seems like a pretty effective way to begin the process of migrating unlimited data users off to another plan. My only question now is will Verizon join the price war?
