Portable Lap Desk Offers a Minimalistic Take on Well … Lap Desks!

If you’re one of those folks who happen to be in the market for a versatile yet minimalistic portable desk but can’t be bothered with the funky patterned colors, or the spongy cushion material on your lap while surfing the web, the Portable Lap Desk Kickstarter by Liyang Liu may just solve all of your problems.

Introducing the Portable Lap Desk

The Portable Lap Desk Installation No.1 brings new meaning to the 2011 “Planking” fad. With eight days to go to back this product and already reaching his pledged goal, Liu has managed to bring two metal bars, bamboo, and your imagination together.

The idea behind the lap desk is simple. You can use the plank to be productive while sitting on your couch binge watching your favorite shows in comfort, or you could even install the plank between the two included bars for what could be a makeshift desk. Me personally I know I will be using the items included ridges to fit my iPad Mini in a slanted, yet viewable position alongside of my Macbook when I am live tweeting or Face timing friends or playing Words Against Friends. In the video, the ipad fits perfectly in the space given on the desk sans case, but I wonder how this would fair for those who do use one.

Of course, the desk can do much more! In the clip, it is shown to be able to host coffee mugs, cups, and even a bowl of what looks to be Cookie Crisp! (Personal childhood favorite). My only concern would be since this is indeed a flat surface, if sitting on at a bad angle, since there is no actual etched out holder for beverages, they may slide, which could be a danger to your tech product.

Nevertheless, this Kickstarter is one item I can see having MANY uses for me. Cooking in the kitchen, this would be a great stand for reading your recipes from your tablet or laptop, while keeping it away from food & moisture. And those with children, this looks to be a great desk for kids to doodle (with paper of course) on.

All of the products are locally sources and eco-friendly, of course coming in two desk colors (Light and dark), and four bracket colors, ranging from Green to a light cream color, which looks to be my favorite.
