Apple went big when they rolled out their new MacBook. It’s thin, light and looks fantastic. It also eschews traditional connectivity for the new USB-C standard. I have little doubt we will see this type of connectivity on more and more devices but Apple is, once again, forcing new connectivity on consumers. That’s where the Moshi USB-C-to-USB Adapter comes in.

The USB-C connector is a fast, powerful means of connectivity but the reality is that it is still early in its life-cycle. That means few if any of us have peripherals that have this standard in place. Sure, many of us do most of our connectivity to peripherals wirelessly but there are still times when a physical connection is necessary. And while I totally get why Apple went this route- the USB-C standard supports 5 Gbps data transfer speeds and can feed 3A of power- it is still early in this transition.

So what is someone with a USB cable to do if they now have Apple’s new MacBook? The answer is simple- buy the $25 USB-C to USB Adapter Moshi now offers.

This simple adapter lets you,

Easily connect any USB device (external hard drive, USB hub, printer, etc.) to your MacBook with Moshi’s USB-C to USB Adapter. It is compliant with the latest USB-C specifications to support data transfer speeds of 5 Gbps and up to 3 amps of power output through its reversible USB-C connector. The adapter’s aluminum housing protects against electromagnetic interference to ensure reliable data transfer even at the highest speeds. Small and portable, you can also plug in a USB cable to charge/sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod while on the go.

It is a solid adapter that has a premium feel thanks to the anodized aluminum case and is long enough to give you some connectivity flexibility without being too large or long to throw in your gear bag.

I suspect it won’t be long before USB-C becomes the standard but we are a good distance form that. Until then, if you have one of the new MacBooks you definitely want to pick up one of these. Check it out here.

What I Like: Well-built; Simple plug and play; Inexpensive

What Needs Improvement: Annoying- but not surprising- that Apple made the change but didn’t include something like this.
