Huawei announced the GX8 Android smartphone at CES 2016, and tomorrow you’ll be able to buy your own at GetHuawei.com, BestBuy.com, Amazon.com, select Best Buy stores, and Newegg.com.
The GX8 features an “aviation?level aluminum” body with a 5.5″ 1920×1080 screen that has a slightly angled design with its 2.5D cambered surface, which is supposed to help protect against cracks and scratches. The GX8 has next-gen fingerprint ID technology, a 13MP BSI back camera with “optical image stabilization and a large aperture 28mm wide?angle sapphire lens”, a 5MP front-facing camera, 16GB internal storage, 2GB RAM, a 3,000mAh battery, and a 1.5 GHz Qualcomm® Snapdragon 616, 8-core processor.
At $349.99 without a contract, you don’t need to lock yourself into a two-year plan or payment scheme — buy it, and pop any SIM from anywhere in the world inside, and you’ll be good to go.
Huawei has really stepped up their game with quality unlocked Android phones; Carly will soon have a full review of the Honor 5X, and Dan and I will have a review of the flagship Mate 8.
The GX8 is available in Horizon Gold, Space Grey and Mystic Champagne. You can learn more about the GX8 here.
