We have the chance to review a lot of external batteries on the site. For one to stand out these days it has to have an amazing industrial design, special features or a shockingly low price. The Moshi IonBank 10K has great industrial design and numerous special features. It’s just under $100 but, hey, two out of three ain’t bad.

The battery looks classy and that’s just the beginning. The combination of the metal body and the “vegan leather” (read: synthetic material) come together to create an external battery that looks like none other.
On one end there is the power button and a full-size USB port. Four small LED lights sit between the two. A quick press of the button causes the lights to activate so you can know how much of a charge you have remaining.
Beneath the “vegan leather” flap are two connected cables.
One flips out and has a Lightning cable connected to it. Flip it out, drop the flap back in place and you are ready to charge.
The second cable is a full size USB cable. This one is used to charge the battery. Both sit hidden beneath the flap until you need to use them. And, since they come out on either side of the battery, you can charge the battery while a device is connected to the Lighting connector so you can charge the device too. It is a clean, neat, and oh-so useful battery design.

There are tons of external batteries currently on the market. With the proliferation of batteries with built-in Lightning cables there is no reason for an iPhone-user to get a battery that requires you to supply your own cable. That noted, this particular iteration of the cabled-battery has a more refined look than most. Its an impressive offering from Moshi!

What I Like: Plenty of battery capacity; Compact and good looking; Hidden Lightning connector built in; USB charging cable built in; USB port for charging a second device at the same time.
What Needs Improvement: We will see how well the vegan leather flap holds up over time.
