The Lowdown

The Capnos Zero and the Capnos E-Z can’t cure your nicotine addiction — that’s up to you. But they can make quitting your costly and ultimately unhealthy vaping habit seem a little bit less “cold turkey” by offering a device that you can inhale flavored air from, get that oral fixation, and fidget with.

Capnos has a simple concept with a big goal: to help people break their nicotine vaping habits. To accomplish this, they’ve deconstructed the vaping experience down to satisfying the basic behavioral habit of oral fixation. Using one of their battery-free devices, you can inhale flavored air without any of the health risks that come from vaping while satisfying that hard-to-break oral fixation hurdle. Read on to learn more about this and to see if it might be the solution you’ve been looking for.

The story behind Capnos is impressive; their founder, Brenden Wang, struggled for five years with his vaping addiction, which began when he was a high school freshman.

Concerned about the health aspects of vaping and looking for something that would be cost-effective for users, he invented Capnos, a pressurized and flavored air inhaler with the mission of preventing lung disease and saving lives.

If you have a vaping addiction, this video “Vaping: A Day in the Life” probably hits home. But can it really be so simple?

The Capnos Zero and Capnos E-Z are designed to address the behavioral addictions of oral fixation and fidgeting relief which are powerful aspects of the vaping process that hook users. Capnos devices specifically tackle the psychological aspects and behavioral addictions of vaping addiction with a simple, battery-free concept.

My Opinel is a No8 for reference, so, at about 4″ folded, it is just slightly bigger than the Capnos.

The hardware for both the Capnos Zero and the Capnos E-Z is solid. Physically, they’re like a cigar merged with a Juul.

The mouthpiece is very Juul-shaped, while the body slopes out into a more rounded look at the bottom. The general functionality of both is the same. There’s a valve inside the bottom and a mouthpiece that clicks into the top that contains wicks with flavors. You inhale, the valve pops, and you get a mouthful of flavored air.

So, which device is right for you?

The Capnos Zero requires a bit of a deeper pull than the E-Z, so if you’re someone who is trying to break a hardcore vaping habit where you like deep inhales, or lung pulls, the Zero would be a better fit. Someone coming from a vaping experience offered by a Juul or a Vuse might prefer the Capnos E-Z shallower inhales, or mouth pulls.

Otherwise, the two devices are identical and use the same mouthpieces.

We were sent both the original Capnos Zero and the Capnos E-Z to try. Personally, I liked the E-Z better. I’m not a vaper, but I do have issues with anxiety, and I found the E-Z to be a useful tool for calming me down.

Using the Capnos E-Z, I inhale through my mouth and then exhale via my nose. The act of inhaling flavored air through mindful breaths has calmed me down more than a few times!

The one thing to remember is that this is not an actual vape. You won’t get the visual sensation of exhaling a vapor cloud — you won’t be exhaling anything other than clear air — so if you expect to see that when using a vape, you might feel a slight cognitive dissonance during the first few inhales.

Even so, the Capnos Zero is still able to create a nicotine vape’s throat-hit sensation “using only the surrounding air with a pressurized hit that exercises your lungs.”

Once you get beyond the lack of vapor and hit a rhythm, you’ll find that using a Capnos device is quite enjoyable!

Flavor drops go on the wicks.

Capnos has an interesting approach to adding flavor to the inhales that you get from each of their devices. Remember, there’s no battery, so all of this is analog, and that includes how you get the flavor onto the wicks.

To that end, Capnos provides little vials of essential oils (deemed safe for general use by the FDA) and a syringe for applying the oil to the wick; you can add as many or few drops as you wish.

Capnos says to expect the flavor to last 2-4 weeks, and each vial should last a few months. Since the Capnos Base doesn’t have a battery, it could theoretically last forever — or at least until you lose it.

They sent me samples of orange, mint, and lavender, and I have to say that all of them were quite pleasant. I’m partial to mint, but the orange and lavender were both lovely too.

The bottom of a Capnos device

Shaking an addiction isn’t easy. But Capnos say that for many, vaping is a behavioral addition as much as nicotine addiction. From a survey of over a thousand vape users, they found that two out of three people vape to satisfy an oral fixation or their desire to fidget with something.

Customer-submitted data from our first launch reports that 83% of our customers found the CAPNOS Zero to be effective in satisfying oral fixations, with 78% saying it helps for vaping reduction, and 63% for stress relief.

Both the Capnos Zero and the Capnos E-Z are extraordinarily affordable at $24.99 per device, or $44.99 for a combo pack of both devices and the lavender/mint flavors, and $13.99 per flavored cap pack.

If you smoke/vape and need to replace the oral fixation, or if you’re just looking for a way to take meaningful deep breaths throughout the day, the Capnos Zero and Capnos E-Z offer an innovative, tasty, and simple solution!

The Capnos Zero and the Capnos E-Z sell for $24.99; they are available directly from the manufacturer.

This is interesting, but it doesn’t seem that useful. If you want to quit nicotine with vaping you can just lower the nicotine concentration until you’re vaping 0mg nicotine.
