U-tec Ulticam IQ Series Offers Smart Home Security Without the Subscription Hassle

Having some sort of home security system is easier than ever. You can even throw a video doorbell and a few cameras up in just a few minutes of work! There are many options out there, but the U-tec Ulticam IQ series offers a few home security devices that make them stand out from a crowded market.

The biggest thing that makes the U-tec Ulticam IQ Series stand out is that there is no subscription service. They offer rolling 7-day cloud storage and 8GB on-camera storage. Some models also allow you to expand the on-device storage with an SD card.

It’s frustrating to invest in a device or ecosystem only to find out you’re also forced to keep paying overtime or lose out on some of the features that drew you to the device from the start! So Ulticam wants to free you from the subscription while giving you peace of mind.

On the homefront, they’re rolling out the U-tec Ulticam IQ series. The cameras are powered by edge AI and can accept updates over WiFi or 4G LTE to keep refreshing the features.

AI on a security camera means it can distinguish between Great Aunt Gertie and a burglar or between a very angry bee and a prowler. They’ll have multiple connectivity and power options depending on which camera you choose, but all of them will feature that generous 7 days of cloud storage and can expand the on-camera storage from 8GB to 128GB via SD.

The Ulticam IQ 2K will have an MSRP of $169, $199 with 4G LTE, coming in the first quarter of 2025, and the Xthings Ulticam IQ Floodlight 2K will be $199, or $239 with 4G LTE, coming in the second quarter of 2025.

Security isn’t just for home, though. The U-tec Ulticam Dot is a portable security camera, which is super handy if you travel a lot or want to keep an eye on rotating locations. Like the others, it has 7-day rolling cloud storage and 8GB of onboard storage. It runs on four AA batteries, and Ulticam says the battery life depends on your use.

However, you do have many use options. When it’s on WiFi, you can use two-way audio and real-time alerts, and four customizable detection zones help avoid false alarms.

The Ulticam Dot sports a magnetic base, peel-and-stick adhesive, screw-in options, and an alarm siren. Whether you’re keeping an eye on your office, a hotel room, or anything else you need, the Dot will watch it for you. Look for it starting at $69 in the first quarter of 2025.

  1. It’s great that there’s no subscription fee, but they can always take away or reduce anything they provide in the cloud. There aren’t great alternatives to cloud storage for remote viewing. At least the local storage is something you’ll be able to use no matter what they do in the future.

  2. I like the idea of the Ulticam Dot, a small camera you can leave in your hotel room or Airbnb and not worry about your belongings.

  5. No subscription service? Yay! I appreciate 7 days of cloud storage.
