Cons
Incase manufactures bags and backpacks and a wide variety of “Designed by Microsoft” peripherals, including mice, keyboards, headphones, and webcams, but they are probably best known for their cases for iPhones and MacBooks. This review looks at the Incase Edge Hardshell Case for MacBook Pro.
Much like the selection of a cover for your smartphone, the choice of how to protect your MacBook comes down to a few factors, such as design, style, durability, and cost.
Style
If you are a fan of the design of Apple products and do not wish to obscure that aesthetic, then this case is for you. The case is available in two colors, clear and black, both of which are translucent. The clear version is mostly imperceptible except for the border around the top of the laptop and the feet on the underside. The black option is essentially a smoked version of the clear case.
Design
The Edge Hardshell features an inset center window with matte edges and is specifically designed for MacBook Airs and MacBook Pros. The unit snuggly fits around the laptop and provides access to all ports, buttons, lights, and MacBook features. It also features a series of slotted openings on both sides to ensure proper airflow.
The case is easily installed and removed through the use of micro clips that ensure a secure fit without adding bulk. This means your laptop still closes normally and is fully compatible with accessories like privacy screens.
Everything about the design is about adding protection from scratches and impact damage without changing the look of the MacBook or adding undue weight or bulk.
Durability
The textured finish and raised edges help make finding a secure grip easy, and the rubberized feet provide a bit of shock resistance and help stabilize the laptop.
The case is made of 100% Makrolon, which according to Incase is “…an innovative, lightweight polycarbonate trusted across industries for its high impact resistance, low C02 emissions, increased energy savings, and fully recyclable end-of-life option.”
