I’ve ridden my fair share of electric scooters over the years- from lightweight commuters to oversized off-road monsters- and I can say this: the Segway GT3 SuperScooter is something special. It hits all the sweet spots and offers an amazing experience. It’s not trying to be the fastest scooter in the world, but it blends real-world speed, premium build quality, and thoughtful features in a way that makes it both fun and practical.

Segway GT3 SuperScooter

Before diving into the review, let me say a few words about scooters and me. I reviewed a number of electric scooters for Gear Diary some years ago. They were fun, but rarely had enough power to be practical in my ever-so-hilly town. As a result, I thought of scooters as little more than expensive toys. They were fun to ride, but not practical as an alternative form of transportation.

That changed three summers ago when I spent a month living in Tel Aviv. The city is incredibly friendly to alternative transportation and has introduced bike/scooter-specific lanes on many streets. A remarkable rental infrastructure that allows you to pick up a scooter on many corners, unlock it with your phone, ride for however long you need, and then drop it at one of many specified locations. It’s convenient, inexpensive, and many of the scooters even have helmets for safety (I NEVER ride a scooter without one). Add in the fact that Tel Aviv is a flat city, and scooters become a surprisingly remarkable way to get around.

Raina and I are moving there in ten months. We won’t have a car, so I’ve been on the lookout for the right scooter to bring with me. The GT3 ticks all the boxes. Full stop.

Okay, so let’s dig into things.

Segway describes the GT3 SuperScooter this way:

The GT3 isn’t just an upgrade—it’s a revolution. It redefines what a super scooter can be. With its ultra-long range, the GT3 conquers distances effortlessly, merging raw power with an advanced stability enhancement system. A next-generation ride where performance and innovation meet to deliver an exhilarating experience. Enjoy new proprietary technologies and innovations such as autonomous locking and unlocking with Segway Airlock, optimized geometry for agility with SegRide, and map navigation.

First Impressions: Aggressive and Purposeful

Segway GT3 SuperScooter

Right out of the box, the Segway GT3 SuperScooter makes a statement.

back end of the Segway GT3 SuperScooter

The matte-black frame, muscular stem, and wide deck give it an aggressive, planted look. At about 87 pounds, it’s not something you’ll be throwing over your shoulder, but that heft translates into rock-solid stability on the road. With a long stance and high, thick post and handlebars, it’s a physically big scooter and makes a statement.

Assembly was minimal, and connecting it to the Segway app took just a few taps. Within a few minutes, it was ready to go.

Performance: Quick, Controlled, and Fun

The Segway GT3 SuperScooter’s top speed is 31 mph. That’s obviously more than enough for city streets and bike lanes. I keep it at 25 mph. It’s plenty fast for me and, in most cases, that’s the posted speed limit in my town.

Rear wheel of the Segway GT3 SuperScooter

The GT3 SuperScooter’s 1,200W (2,400W peak) motor offers impressive acceleration. I doubt you’ll really need it, but according to the company, you can hit 30 mph in around 9.5 seconds in Ultra Boost Mode. I’ve been impressed with how quickly it accelerates, but haven’t tested its FULL capacity.

The power delivery is smooth, and Segway’s stability system lets you feel confident even when pushing the scooter hard and dealing with uneven roads.

Ride Comfort: Suspension That Works

Suspension and stability are where the Segway GT3 SuperScooter really shines.

Front wheel of the Segway GT3 SuperScooter

For suspension, it has a dual hydraulic system with twin-tube shocks up front and a trailing-arm setup in the rear. The combination does an excellent job of dealing with potholes, expansion joints, and curb drops. Our town is beginning to repair the roads, which are old, worn, pothole-filled, and generally in disrepair. The GT3 deals with all of that with remarkable aplomb.

The 11″ self-sealing tubeless tires add even more cushioning while protecting against flats. It’s a ride you can enjoy for miles without feeling beat up afterward. Your knees and your back will thank you!

Range and Charging: Solid for Everyday Use

The Segway GT3 SuperScooter’s battery is rated for up to 45 miles in Eco mode and around 25 miles in Sport or Race mode.

In real-world riding, mixing in some high-speed stretches, I consistently hit the mid-30s.

Safety and Braking: Confidence at Every Speed

The handlebars on the Segway GT3 SuperScooter

Braking is handled by front and rear hydraulic disc brakes, backed by regenerative braking. From 20 mph, you can stop in roughly 18 feet, and the feel at the levers is firm but predictable.

The Segway GT3 SuperScooter’s lighting is equally well thought out, with a powerful adaptive headlight, bright brake lights, turn signals, and side lighting for 360-degree visibility. The IPX6 water-resistance rating means it’s ready for unexpected weather.

Tech and Features: Smart Where It Matters

The Segway GT3 SuperScooter's display

The GT3 SuperScooter’s 2.4″ TFT display is bright and easy to read, showing speed, battery life, and mode at a glance. The Segway app unlocks custom ride profiles, lets you tweak acceleration and regen settings, and even integrates Apple Find My so you can track the scooter’s location. The AirLock auto-unlock feature is a small touch that makes everyday use faster and easier.

Here’s how Segway describes the scooter’s technical prowess:

  • The Display:
    • Navigation: View real-time updates and seamlessly navigate through today’s urban jungle with turn-by-turn notifications.
    • Incoming Call Notification: The display alerts you to incoming calls, keeping you informed even as you ride.
    • Real-Time Information: Easily access current speeds, battery levels, trip distance, and more at a glance.
  • Auto Unlock: Bluetooth Unlocking Technology. Unlock your GT3 automatically as you approach, using Segway’s AirLock technology through the Segway Mobility App. Customize the unlocking distance in the App.
  • Track your SuperScooter with the Apple Find My network: With just a quick glance at the “Find My” app on your iPhone, you’ll know exactly where your SuperScooter is located

The controls are laid out thoughtfully.

Clearly, the Segway GT3 SuperScooter was designed by people who actually ride scooters and know how important it is to have all the controls easily within reach while still holding tight to the handlebars.

Price and Value

The GT3 has a retail price of $1,899.99, but it’s widely available for $1,699.99. For a scooter with this level of build quality, comfort, performance, and tech, it’s a strong value in the premium commuter and sport category.

Final Verdict

The  GT3 SuperScooter isn’t the lightest or the fastest scooter out there, but it nails the mix of speed, comfort, stability, and smart features. It’s as fun as it is practical, and it’s built to handle real-world hills and roads, not just perfectly smooth pavement. If you want a scooter that makes every ride feel like an event without tipping into overkill, the GT3 is an easy recommendation.

I rarely review a product and can’t point to at least one or two concerns or wishlist items for future updates. The Segway GT3 SuperScooter is the rare exception. The scooter is fast, smooth, comfortable, and packed with features. Its water resistance and rugged design mean it doesn’t need to be babied. It offers a good range and charges quickly. AND it is a good value for what it offers. You can spend less, but you will get less. You can spend more, but do you really need to go at highway speeds on a scooter?

The Segway GT3 sits in the perfect space between scooters that are more toy than transport and scooters that are no more practical than a Lamborghini on the streets of New York. I absolutely love this scooter. If you are looking for something that is truly fun AND alternative transportation, this is the scooter for you!

The Segway GT3 SuperScooter retails for $1899.99 (currently on sale for $1699.99); it is available directly from the manufacturer.
