Bob and Brad Zero Pro Ultra-Quiet Eye Massager Review: Headache Relief Is Available at Home and On-the-Go

The Lowdown

I have a whole bag of tricks that I reach for when I’m suffering from a headache. There’s Advil, saline spray, mints, and now there’s the Bob and Brad Zero Pro Ultra-Quiet Eye Massager. It means committing to 15+ minutes, and possibly remembering if past-me was nice enough to put the eye mask in the freezer, but if the first line of defense fails, this eye massager has more than once been the difference between suffering for hours or feeling significantly better in 20 minutes. I might be in love with it.

Overall
4.8

Pros

  • Incredibly comfortable to wear
  • It hits pressure points across the upper part of your face from nose to temples
  • It is well built
  • It comes with a carrying case accessory
  • It charges via USB-C
  • Pressure, heat, and volume can be adjusted to your liking

Cons

  • The cold compress feature is a separate part, making it slightly less convenient

When I was a kid and would get sinus infections, my mom’s solution was always to heat up a washcloth in the microwave. The heat over my aching sinuses would help until the washcloth cooled off, and then I had a slightly less bad headache and a damp forehead. Bob and Brad have taken their knowledge of massage and expanded it from guns to eye massagers, and they’re also addressing the hot and cold compress treatment as well with the Bob and Brad Zero Pro Ultra-Quiet Eye Massager!

Bob and Brad are good at thinking of all the little touches. The massager comes with a hard-shell case for storage, along with a spare USB-C cable. The device folds in half for storage, and the hinge and fold feel solid. The headband that holds the massager in place is thick and comfortable but easily adjustable. There’s a padded area that sits against your face, and it’s soft and well-stitched. The optional cold compress pad is likewise of good quality, and it holds temperature well.

So, having established it’s a well-made device, the bigger question is how it works. The massager has 5 main features: heat plus air pressure plus music, heat plus air pressure, air pressure only, heat only, and heat plus music. You just tap the power button to cycle through the options, which makes navigation easy even when you’re wearing the mask. You can also adjust the volume by holding the rocking button up or down for a few seconds, while quickly rocking it up adjusts the air pressure and a quick flick down adjusts the heat level.

You can also connect it to the Bluetooth on your phone and listen to your own music, so if you have a special “oh my god my eyeballs are melting with pain” playlist, you can rock it while getting some relief. I like including the music; it really does add a level of relaxation to the experience, and I’ve drifted off more than once, only to wake up well after the massage cycle ended and with my head feeling better.

The massage aspect is what the device calls “air pressure”. It may be air pressure, but it feels like fingers running all over your sinuses, gentle along your brow and under your eyes and pushing pleasantly on the bridge of your nose and at your temples. It hits all the pressure points that you want pushed when your head hurts.

Heat comes from the pad that touches your face. At the baseline level, it’s a pleasant level of heat, and it radiates nicely. It’s comfortable and never gets painfully hot. Bob and Brad say that the heat is for dry eye treatment, and while I can’t say if that’s helped my “I spend all day staring at a computer” eyes, it is pleasant at the end of the day.

If you prefer a cold compress, Bob and Brad do include a freezable compress that you can wear under the massager. It’s basically a cold compress eye mask, and you’ll need to plan ahead for at least 15 minutes to let it freeze. Unlike the SKG eye massager we reviewed recently, the cold portion is not built into the device. Despite that drawback, it feels really good when combined with a massage, especially if you’re suffering from a particularly stubborn or severe headache.
