SCOTTEVEST has long offered men’s hoodies, and although there were some styles that I liked more than others, there was no getting around the fact that they were and have always been cut for boxier bodies. Until now. Scott and Laura Jordan have just introduced the Women’s SeV Chloe Hoodie, which has obviously been made with a woman’s body in mind. What does that mean exactly? Well, for starters, there is a bit of tapering in the midsection; it’s not enough to squeeze you in two, and it’s not so much that it would make you look lumpy when carrying a few items in the hidden pockets SeV garments are known for, but it is enough that if one of your guy friends put it on he’d notice. There is just enough tapering to flatter a femme figure. Along with the black (Magic) version, the Chloe also comes in a most decidedly feminine color combination called Kiss, which the SeV site calls gray, but I think looks like a purplely-mocha with fuchsia trim. I was recently sent a Chloe hoodie in Kiss, and I have spent the last few days trying it out.  Could this be my new go-to hoodie? Read on to find out!

The Hype

The hoodie is commonly considered to be the most comfy article of clothing on the planet, and we just made it better! (Hard to believe, but it’s true!) Our loyal customers sent email after email asking why we didn’t make a more feminine hoodie so they could stop stealing their boyfriend’s over-sized one. Well, here it is! The cutest, softest, and most useful women’s hoodie in the world! We took the classic elements of a hoodie, outfitted it with our innovative pocketing system, and of course made it cuter with ultra soft, plush lining in the hood and roll over cuffs. When it’s extra chilly, you can use the thumbholes to keep your hands warm. Once you put it on, you will wish it came in seven color combinations so you could wear one every day (you probably will anyway). Imagine the freedom of cruising a new city, exploring museums and boutiques without your purse weighing you down. Girl’s night out? Now you don’t have to worry about where to hang your purse to keep it safe while you belly up to the bar or jump up for an impromptu dance to your favorite song. And you’ll still be able to carry your money, passport, lipstick, hairbrush and even your camera because the 14 discreetly incorporated pockets make it all possible. And you won’t be lopsided or lumpy because at SCOTTEVEST, we wear and test all our garments to insure optimal style, fit and function – even fully loaded. The ever fabulous Chloe Hoodie comes in Kiss (gray with pink contrast lining) or Magic (black on black). Machine Washable.

I have two favorite hoodies that have not yet been culled from my closet. The first is a Lucky Brand embroidered number that cost me far too much money about seven years ago; it is more than a bit impractical seeing how it has no pockets, and I would never consider wearing it while hiking or doing anything that might put the embroidery in harm’s way. But it looks great! =P My other is a men’s black hoodie from Toranado, a San Francisco pub that Kev and I visited last year. Much as I like that hoodie, it’s not something I would wear to a school football game (or any other public place, really) due to the huge Toranado Pub logo — a pint glass held in a fist — on its back. No, that hoodie is best kept for cool mornings at the ranch or ultra-casual evenings with friends. So perhaps you can see that I did have a need for the right hoodie, one that I could wear with jeans when running errands (without looking like some soccer-mom with an alcohol problem), but one that also wasn’t sonice that I wouldn’t wear it when hiking or riding the 4-wheeler on a cool morning. And then the Chloe Hoodie arrived. Composed of soft, fluffy Poly microfleece, the Chloe also has a plush fleece lined hood and cuffs. The cuffs may be worn turned up (which exposes the contrasting fuchsia cuff liner) or down (which covers about 1/2 of my hand). The neat thing about the cuffs is that there is a built-in thumb-loop in each to help keep everything in place and keep the hand covered. I can remember when my daughter used to add her own thumb-loops to the hoodies she would wear; this looks much more finished. 😉

A neat design feature is how the zipper teeth wrap all the way around the rim of the hood. theoretically, you could zip this hoodie up over your face! Realistically, you won’t ever do that, but the zipper teeth are a cool design element.

Of course, this is an SeV garment, which means that there is more to it than simply being a comfy, snuggly hoodie. Inside there are:

  • 14 fun-filled pockets (fun for you to fill, that is!)
  • Dedicated pockets for your sunglasses, Kindle, camera, lipstick, credit card and more
  • Personal Area Network (PAN) keeps headphone wires neat for tangle free living
  • Cool-looking zipper pulls and a zipper that goes all the way around the plush-lined hood are cool, unique details
  • Weight Management System balances the weight of what you carry in your pockets

Best of all it is machine washable in cold water; hang it to dry when done, then toss it in the dryer for 5 minutes to shake out the wrinkles … You’re good to go! (and yes, I have tried it)

The thing I always like to point out about SeV garments is that just because they are loaded with pockets, you don’t need to feel obligated to fill them! I have done reviews before where I stuffed a garment totally full with gear just to see how much it would hold, but that is not a look I would want, nor  is it truly practical — unless you are participating in one of Scott’s “no baggage challenges”, of course.

What I like is that because there are so many pockets, you can choose which specific ones you want to carry your gear in. If you prefer to keep your iPhone in the upper left breast pocket because you don’t wear a headset when you jog or hike, then you can. If you prefer to keep your keys or spending money inside a lower left zippered interior pocket rather than in an outer handwarmer pocket, you can. A SCOTTEVEST garment offers a wide range of pockets to choose from so that you can personalize your jacket to the carry-system that works for you; it is all about what you want and what youneed. I think that’s rather awesome. =)

SeV gets a lot of criticism (some is justified, some not so much) for overly branding their garments. No one will be able to make that complaint here. Other than a few branded badges on the interior of the hoodie — and who cares, because nobody else but you is going to see those — the onlyexterior branding is a discreet SeV logo on the bottom left of the hem.

I absolutely love this hoodie; it fits well, and it looks good. The best part is that is it pretty enough that I can wear it everywhere with jeans, but it isn’t so delicate that I’ll think twice before grabbing it for an early morning hike.

The Chloe Hoodie is now my go-to, the hoodie that hangs off the back of a chair, ready to go should I need to step out for a bit. I don’t have to worry that I’ll raise any eyebrows in our small town with my pub hoodie, and I don’t have to worry if I wind up hiking somewhere a little tricky, a place where an embroidered hoodie might get snagged on a branch. This hoodie is soft, warm and cute; best of all it is a SCOTTEVEST, so I can carry my gear, my way. What more could I ask for?

The Women’s SeV Chloe Hoodie is available directly from SCOTTEVEST.; it is available in Magic (black) or Kiss (cocoa and fuchsia); they are available in sizes XS to XXL!

MSRP: $90

What I Like: Great fitting and great looking, the Chloe hoodie goes well with jeans or workout gear; no obnoxious labels or branding on the exterior; SeV interior pockets allow you to store your necessities in whichever pockets suit your needs

What Needs Improvement: I wish that there were more colors available!

  1. Judie- you look FANTASTIC in the hoodie! It is definitely the most stylish, feminine item for women. Great review, let me know what colors you would want the hoodie in and I will throw the suggestion to the production team. Thanks again for another amazing review!

    • Scott, I would love to see some other basic colors — like cream or navy with a shocking contrast color (aqua? neon green? cheetah print?). A contrasting color on a black hoodie would be fab, too, but I like that you made an all black option. I love the new items you’re coming out with!! =)

  2. I totally want one of these!  It looks great!

  3. It does look quite good on you.
How wind and rain resistant is it?

    • Sam, like other fleece hoodies it cuts the wind some — doing a really good job on the front where the lined pockets are, but the back is a single fleece layer. So with that in mind, for really windy days you might be happier with a windbreaker-type garment. As for rain, it would be fine in a light sprinkle, but it’s not going to keep you dry for long. It’s perfect for those chilly days where a coat is too much but you need something more than a thermal shirt. =)

      • There are some wind-resistant/water-resistant fleece cloth available (e.g. Polartec Wind Pro, Gore-Tex Windstopper), i was wondering if SeV used one–they tend either to be thick and heavy or rather expensive.

  4. I will definitely be purchasing this jacket next year. I too would like to see more color options to choose from.

  5. I’m looking forward to hearing what you think. =)
