One of the great things about being around the tech world is watching the way in which companies and product lines evolve. The TwelveSouth BookBook for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus is a perfect example. The original BookBook was nice but flawed; a few product generations later, and the new BookBook is nothing short of a home run.

The original BookBook was a great idea. A case that looked like an old-fashioned leather-bound book. What could be a better melding of old and new world?? The issues came into play when you actually went to use the phone while it was in the case. Getting the device into and out of the BookBook wasnt difficult, but it certainly wasn’t simple. And when you wanted something lighter, you had to go with your phone completely exposed and vulnerable. The biggest issue, however, came when you tried to take a picture. You see, the original BookBook had no cutout for the camera.

The next iteration let you push the phone up and clear of the case. It was better but still not optimized These weren’t BAD cases, but they certainly weren’t anywhere near ideal. This new version of the BookBook takes all the previous limitations into consideration and makes significant changes. The result is a truly impressive case that you will absolutely love.

BookBook for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus is an all-new wallet case, hands-free stand and removable shell – wrapped up in one gorgeous, vintage leather book. BookBook has pockets to hold your ID, cards and cash. It now folds into a display stand for hands-free FaceTime chats and watching videos. And one more thing: BookBook features a removable soft-touch shell to protect your iPhone 6 or 6 Plus in or out of BookBook. Whatever your needs, this feature-packed case has you covered.

Here’s our video look:

The BookBook for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus is three cases in one. First and foremost, it is a gorgeous leather folio-style case that brings old and new worlds together. The second functionality is a viewing stand that lets you truly enjoy the larger iPhone screens in a new way. Finally, the interior shell of the BookBook snaps out of the leather case so you can use the iPhone on its own but still keep it nicely protected.

Function One: A beautiful, hand-distressed leather folio that wraps and protects your iPhone in a gorgeous manner.

From TwelveSouth:

BookBook marries a wallet with an iPhone case, combining two of your must-have items into one brilliant leather book. The wallet portion of this high-quality leather case has five pockets (six for 6 Plus), including slots to hold your bank cards. There’s a handy window pocket that lets you flash your ID when needed. You also have a full-size pocket for cash, receipts or magnetic security cards. It’s the perfect wallet for today’s digital world, letting you pay with Apple Pay where available, or the old-fashioned way with cash – still welcome everywhere.

Thanks to Apple Pay there’s a better argument than ever to use an iPhone case that doubles as a wallet. After all, as Apple Pay arrives in more and more places the need to carry tons of credit cards will rapidly diminish. I do love the fact that TwelveSouth included multiple card slots and made sure one of them let you see your ID through the clear window. They were smart in this implimentation, and they have created a wallet case that will really work for most people. Bravo, TwelveSouth.

As previously mentioned, one of my issues with the original BookBook was the fact that you got a folio-style case and… that was it. With this version of the BookBook TwelveSouth made it possible to not only use the case as a viewing stand but to snap the phone completely out of the case while keeping it protected. As TwelveSoth explains:

A luxury wallet case or a thin shell case? How about both. Inside BookBook, your iPhone snaps into a soft-touch shell. With a quick slide to the left, the shell lifts completely out – so you can leave your wallet in a locker and take your phone to the treadmill. Carry your iPhone wallet combo when you need it, or just your Shell-covered iPhone when you don’t. This slim shell might fit better in your dashboard clip or on your desktop charging stand. And you can hand your iPhone to your kids – without giving them your whole wallet! That’s for college.

As I note in the video, the shell is made from a soft-touch material. It feels great and doesn’t pick up smudges. I don’t love the fact that there are six rough spots on the back, but in order to allow the shell to lock into the leather folio these were a necessary evil.

Finally, when you unlock only one row of the clips that hold the shell in the leather folio you can angle the phone for easy desktop viewing. The iPhone 6 is certainly large enough for enjoying video, but the iPhone 6 Plus, the phone both Judie and I use as our daily drivers, is ideal for consuming video content. The BookBook for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus is built for just this kind of use.

In all, I am really impressed with the new BookBook from TwelveSouth. All the issues I had the previous versions have been resolved and it is, as I said in the introduction, a homerun. TwelveSouth knows they have a winner here, and they are not shy about saying so.

The best BookBook case ever: BookBook for iPhone 6 has you covered for any situation. Six-sided coverage keeps your iPhone safe and secure. A built-in wallet means you’ll have your bank cards with you when Apple Pay isn’t an option. A removable shell fits in your workout armband or dashboard clip. The built-in display stand means you can have an animated discussion about the new Star Wars trailer. It’s everything you want in a case… and more.

I have to agree, and I only wish that I had been sent the version for the 6 Plus. Then again, thats what online shopping is for! 🙂
