Butterfly Sleep Pillow Review: Fly into Better Sleep!

I don’t always sleep well. Every fitness tracker I’ve ever tested has given me poor marks for being flail-y while I sleep. All this was compounded by having to sleep on my back after surgery last year, which led me to realize I needed to up my pillow game. The Butterfly Sleep Pillow promises to be the pillow for any kind of sleeper, so of course, I had to give them a true torture test by using it for my rather disjointed sleep experience!

The Butterfly Sleep Pillow is not your typical flat- or fluffy-shaped pillow. As the name suggests, it has a butterfly shape. It’s available in Standard, Queen, and Kind sizes, and there are also options for Soft Fill or Firm Fill.

The pillow has a solid middle and two flared-out pillow “wings” on each side; this allows you to use it in several ways. Butterfly Sleep suggests using it as a wedge pillow, leg pillow, side sleeping pillow, back sleeping pillow, and stomach sleeping pillow. The only thing this pillow can’t do is make your bed after you sleep!

I was pretty skeptical of the butterfly pillow at first. It’s softer than most pillows that I’ve used, and besides being a tossy-turny sleeper, I also deal with a ton of sinus issues. So, I’ve naturally gravitated towards stiffer, heavier pillows to keep my head elevated while I sleep.

Now, the Butterfly Sleep Pillow specifically says that it’s good for side sleepers. I love sleeping on my side, and it has been miserable when I used other pillows to sleep on my back. I thought I was back to comfortable sleeping, and then the butterfly pillow showed me there was still another level of comfort to experience.

You know that feeling when you sleep on your side and you don’t know where to put your arm? It’s under the pillow, around the pillow, or under your body, and it just can’t seem to find its proper home.

The nature of the Butterfly Sleep Pillow means your arm has a natural place to land between the two wings, and it doesn’t interfere with your comfort or displace your pillow. It also gives you something vaguely nice to cuddle while you sleep, if you like that.

For me, the most amazing part is that I don’t miss the firmness of other pillows. Even though the butterfly pillow is quite soft, it felt nice and helped me wake up without any nasty headaches. It’s so comfortable that I’ve considered taking it with me to my parents when I visit for a week!

The makers know that the Butterfly Sleep Pillow has a weird shape, so they also thoughtfully include a 100% cotton white pillowcase that fits the 4 wings and won’t shift around. I can attest that they won’t shift, as I’ve been known to disassemble pillows, sheets, and bedding during my sleep, and this pillowcase has stayed put.

The pillow itself is made of 100% cotton and a hypoallergenic fill. We tested the standard fill, but you can opt for a firmer fill if that’s more your speed, and there are sizes ranging from standard to king to cover all your size needs.

The price may seem a little bit steep, but it is on par with prices for other premium pillows, and it is worth it for a good night’s sleep!
