There was a strong showing of health-related gadgets at the IFA Global Press Conference this year, so the brand new Fitbit Versa was the perfect wearable to shine a light on. New to the Versa is the ability to track women’s health — including the ability to log period information, symptoms, and cycle dates. I think this is a first.

Benoit Raimbault, the Vice President Marketing for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa was on hand to tell us about the new Fitbit’s features. Of course, you can use it to log your steps, sleep, track your workouts, track your heart rate, receive notifications from your smartphone, listen to music, and enjoy on-screen workouts, but it’s also completely waterproof, so you can also use it to track your swimming time. The Versa has customizable watch faces, connected GPS, and it also has many of your favorite apps. You can set personalized reminders, use it to guide you through breathing sessions, and it gets 4 or more days of battery life. With 15+ exercise modes and SmartTrack — to “automatically record select exercises like running, biking and more & see them saved in the Fitbit app,” this wearable won’t ever miss a workout.

But what I was most excited about was the addition of women’s health tracking. You can use the Fitbit Versa to “log your periods, record your symptoms, and compare your cycle against other health stats like sleep, activity, and weight.” Can any other fitness tracker do that? If any others can, I’m not aware of it.

The Fitbit Versa now offers:

In-app period tracking: Never get caught by surprise again. Log your period, record symptoms, and opt into receiving push notifications two days before and on the day of your predicted period start date. This allows you to have the opportunity to compare all your stats in one place.

Smartwatch integration: Track where you are in your cycle, view when your period is expected and see your upcoming estimated fertile window in the new Fitbit Today personalized health dashboard on Versa or Ionic.

News you can useLearn about the menstrual cycle, ovulation, fertility, and more with judgement-free content developed with Fitbit advisors Katharine White, MD, MPH, assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Boston University, and Larry Tiglao, MD, an obstetrician-gynecologist at Stanford Healthcare’s Los Olivos Women’s Medical Group in Los Gatos, CA.

Community support: Join new Fitbit Community Groups focused on periods, birth control, trying to conceive, pregnancy, and perimenopause and menopause to ask questions, swap tips, or share advice.

The Fitbit Versa is available in black aluminum with a black strap, silver aluminum with a gray strap, and rose gold aluminum with a peach strap for $199.95 or the special edition colors of graphite aluminum with a charcoal woven strap, or rose gold aluminum with a lavender woven strap for $229.95, there’s a Versa for just about everyone . There are even metal link straps and Horween leather bands available separately so you personalize it to match your style — if I were buying one today, I would be all over the rose gold aluminum with a Horween leather strap in brown.

Fitbit has one of the largest global communities of users, so it is easy to get social with it — you can track your friends’ workouts and share your progress with them. I used to have a Fitbit, and leaving that community when I went to another tracker was hard — because it was the one all of my friends were using. 🙁

You can get the new Fitbit Versa directly from their site, from Amazon, and from other retailers.

Disclosure: I’ve just returned from the 2018 IFA Global Press Conference in Rome, Italy. The GPC is the yearly conference leading up to IFA in Berlin; the GPC consists of multiple power sessions throughout its two days, and it’s a time for select companies to showcase products they’ve recently released or that are coming soon. My airfare and hotel were covered by IFA with no input regarding what I might choose to cover.
