Anker Nebula Capsule II R2-D2 Edition Smart Mini Projector

Anker Nebula Capsule II R2-D2 Edition

Is Dad a Star Wars fan? And does he love to arrange impromptu movie nights even when the family is camping or hanging out in the backyard? If so, he’s going to love the $559.99 Anker Nebula Capsule II R2-D2 Edition. Slightly larger than a soda can, this portable projector runs Android TV natively, or he can cast content to it from his Android phone with Chromecast. Built-in ports on the back include 3.5mm AUX-out if he wants to add another speaker, HDMI so he can project movies he has on his laptop if he’d like, Type-A USB for movies he’s got on a flash drive, and a Type-C for PD charging.

It’s an all-in-one solution that includes a built-in 8W 360º speaker, so he can set it on a flat surface or use its tripod mount to project bright and crisp 720p movies up to 100 inches diagonally onto any flat surface — including the side of a tent or a wall on the back of the house. If there’s no power source nearby, it’s no problem! The Anker Nebula Capsule II R2-D2 Edition Smart Mini Projector’s internal battery lasts up to two-and-a-half hours, so it’s perfect for a movie night virtually anywhere!

It doesn’t just look like R2-D2, though; when Dad turns it on, he’ll be greeted with R2’s iconic robotic chirps. With this particular projector in his arsenal, movie night just got a lot more flexible and fun!

The Lutron Caseta Outdoor Smart Plug

So many of the things in Dad’s home are smart, but wouldn’t it be cool if the exterior of his home was smart, too? Sense Energy Monitor

Sense Energy Monitor

For the Dad who turns out the lights when he leaves a room, the $299 Sense home energy monitor is the latest in smart home technology that tracks and reports energy usage, helping to reduce high utility bills. Like a fitness tracker for the home, the Sense app tells Dad what’s on, what’s off, how much energy the home is using, and how much it costs.  He can see how much electricity is wasted by an inefficient water heater and set goals to reduce usage. He can also set alerts to tell him when the sump pump turns on, the garage door opens, or the coffeemaker is still warming an hour after coffee time.

Sense can make home maintenance easier, too. It constantly tracks the home’s power quality to help diagnose electrical problems. The Sense app tells you if your HVAC system uses more or less electricity than similar homes. For the smart home guy, Sense works with Google Home and Alexa, and it integrates with some smart plugs and smart lights.

Sense installs in the home’s electrical panel and uses machine learning algorithms to identify and track individual devices. As soon as it’s installed, Sense samples the home’s energy 1 million times every second, continuously tracking how much energy the home is using and giving the homeowner immediate feedback about potential energy drains in their home.

To celebrate Father’s Day, the Sense monitor will be $60 off from June 10, 2021 to June 22, 2021.

Sleep Number True Temp Bedding

The Sleep Number True Temp bedding collection features 37.5 technology (made from volcanic sand particles), which keeps Dad (and his bed-mate) from feeling too hot or cold throughout the night. Their data shows 80% of couples sleep too hot or too cold, so this is their way of helping Dad get a deeper, more restful, and comfortable sleep.

Three of the noteworthy items in the Sleep Number True Temp Collection include the $199.99 True Temp Weighted Blanket (available in 12 pounds or 20 pounds), which provides the calming effects of deep pressure stimulation to help reduce stress and promote relaxation.  The glass bead-filled inner blanket’s no-shift channel construction holds the blanket in place for soothing, even weight distribution, while inner ties keep the weighted blanket from shifting. Sleep Number suggests getting the one that is closest to 10% of Dad’s body weight for best calming results.

The Sleep Number collection of True Temp Pillows (priced from $99.99 to $159.99 depending upon the style and size pillow ordered), comes in standard or king sizes and offers three different models (Classic, Countour, and Ultimate) so that whether Dad’s a back sleeper, a side sleeper, or even a stomach sleeper, he’ll get the support he needs all night long. These pillows have a cool-to-the-touch cover combined with soft fiberfill and supportive foam for maximum comfort.

And finally, there’s the True Temp Sheet Set (priced at $199.99 to $319.99 depending upon size), which includes an oversized flat sheet, a fitted sheet with SmartFit design, and two pillowcases. These sheets are soft, and they continuously adapt to maintain Dad’s ideal microclimate, for a comfortable sleep all night long.

CBDistillery

500mg CBDistillery CBD Balm

Warm weather means more time outside. More time outside means sore and achy muscles. CBDistillery offers a range of excellent products that contain CBD. There’s not only the $45 1000mg CBD Relief Stick we shared in our Mother’s Day Gift Guide, but they also offer CBD Salve. It packs 500 MG of CBD  in a light, good smelling balm; we tried it over the weekend, and it is amazing. A 1-ounce tub is usually $60, but it’s currently on sale for $50.

If dad is achy AND has trouble falling asleep, consider getting him some of CBDDistillery’s 30mg Broad Spectrum CDB Sleep Gummies. The combination of CBD and Melatonin has been a huge help since we received some samples a few weeks ago. A 30 count bottle is normally $70 but is currently on sale for $60.

All CBDistillery products are third-party lab-tested to ensure the highest quality and consistent serving sizes. CBDistillery products are made using U.S. Hemp Authority-certified non-GMO industrial hemp grown in the USA using natural farming practices.

Nest Hub (2nd Gen)

Nest Hub (2nd Gen)

The Nest Hub was already an excellent, small, smart speaker with a touchscreen. While not as responsive as Amazon’s Alexa devices, the Nest Hub has always been a great way to bring Google Assistant to your night table.

The $99.99 second-generation Nest Hub was released a few weeks ago. It looks similar, but it has some key improvements to its internals that make it more responsive, better sounding, and better able to listen and respond. Perhaps the biggest change is that the new Nest Hub can now track Dad’s sleep. No, it doesn’t do as deep a dive as specialized sleep watches do, but as we will show in the full review early next week, it is an excellent way to keep an eye on sleep patterns.

Coalatree Men’s Switchback Shirt

Coalatree Switchback Shirt

We know dad loves his coffee in the morning. With the Coalatree Men’s Switchback Shirt, he can have his coffee first thing and then wear coffee all day. You see, the Coalatree Switchback Shirt is made from recycled coffee grounds. We’re serious! Spent coffee grounds are mixed and melted down with recycled plastic bottles, and then the mixture is used to create the fibers. Each shirt contains the equivalent of three cups of coffee and ten plastic bottles.

The unique materials offer several benefits. Not only does the shirt keep waste from landfills, but it also blocks UV rays. That’s important as this summer promises to be a hot one. Thanks to the unique material, the shirt is also odor and wrinkle-resistant. Add in a hidden zipper pocket for keeping wallets or cash safe and the material’s stain resistance, and you have a low-maintenance shirt he’ll wear all summer long.

AirVape X

If dad enjoys vaping essential herbs or lives in a state that has recently made changes to certain laws, the AirVape X is a great gift. At just $139, it is small and sleek, and it looks amazing. This truly is what a vape would look like if Apple tasked their design with creating a vape along the lines of their aesthetics and ease of use.

The AirVape X uses a combination of conduction and convection technologies, resulting in the device reaching the proper temperature in just twenty seconds. The small size (It weighs just 3.2 oz and measures a mere 4.1” long by 1.85” wide by .48” thick), cool design, striking colors, and ease of use make this an amazing portable vape. Add in the fact that it includes the X Shell smell proof and water-resistant case, and Dad will have the ideal vape for summer … and beyond.

I reviewed the BlendJet some months ago; the small, battery-operated blender does exactly what it promises and can go anywhere. Paired with the company’s JetPacks, you can have a smoothy anywhere. And while the BlendJet 2 can be used to make any smoothy or blended drink you want, adding in their JetPack ready-to-blend smoothy pouches, and you have a cool, fruity drink anywhere, any time. Bite Away

Bite Away

Is your dad the kind of guy who walks outside and immediately gets attacked by 30 different kinds of biting and stinging bugs? Help him enjoy the summer more by getting him bite away. Rather than being a messy topical cream that he has to slather over his painful new bump, the $39.99 bite away will give him instant itch relief by using a pulse of advanced, heat-based therapy on the affected area. After getting bit or stung, all Dad has to do is press the bite away’s button and apply just a few seconds of targeted heat from the device’s ceramic surface — it can reduce swelling and remove the itch or pain from insect bites so he can go on about his day.

  5. I’d buy a larger Rise Garden, since my dad already grows some plants. That would let him expand what he’s able to grow and beat the heat in the summer by working less outside.

My favorite memory of my dad is when we would go to a diner – just the two of us – once a month for breakfast. Then we would go to the beach for a walk or a swim (depending on the weather). No matter how busy he was, he always had time for our monthly father-daughter breakfast.

  15. RICARDO MENEZES | June 23, 2021 at 3:10 am |

One of the best memories with my father was the final of the soccer world cup in 1994, it was an unusual game for basketball lovers but fun for the emotion of the game and the bizarre moments, especially the penalty lost by the Italian player.

  16. RICARDO MENEZES | June 23, 2021 at 3:14 am |

I would buy the Zeno Gym item because my dad is a little overweight and doesn’t have time to go to the gym, so doing the exercises at home and in his spare time would be great.

  17. jenifergreenwell | June 23, 2021 at 4:22 pm |

I would get him this Lenovo Legion 5. He is using a laptop that is 7 years old, and is slow as molasses. He deserves it!
