Samsung’s New Galaxy Z Fold7, Flip7, and Watch8: Tempting Upgrades or More Evolution Than Revolution

Samsung has once again raided its innovation lab to launch the Galaxy Z Fold7, Z Flip7, and Watch8, aiming to tempt everyone from casual fitness fans to unapologetic phone obsessives into upgrading. From the new Watch8 series designed to nudge your health habits to the Z Flip7 that folds neatly into your pocket and the powerful Galaxy Z Fold7 that turns into a mini workstation, this lineup covers it all. Whether these devices will genuinely improve your daily life or simply leave your wallet gasping for air, here’s everything announced and why you might actually care.

The Galaxy Watch8 Series: Health Insights Wrapped in Minimalist Style

First up is the Galaxy Watch8 Series. These watches come in two main flavors: the Galaxy Watch8 for sleek minimalism and the Galaxy Watch8 Classic, which features a rotating bezel for those who prefer to fidget during meetings. Samsung’s latest watches have been re-engineered inside to make them thinner and more comfortable for continuous wear. For example, the Watch8’s internal structure was redesigned to be 11 percent thinner than its predecessor. That translates to a wearable that sits flatter against your wrist without screaming, “I am trying to close my rings, Karen.”

The Galaxy Watch8 is available in two sizes: 44mm for $349.99 and 40mm for $379.99, with options for Graphite or Silver. The Classic model measures 46mm and is available in Black or White, priced at $499.99 for the Bluetooth version and $549.99 for the LTE version.

If you’re the type who likes your watch face visible while wandering under punishing sunlight, Samsung promises a 50 percent brighter display, peaking at 3,000 nits. Nits are just a measure of brightness. The more you know.

Performance-wise, you’re getting a 3-nanometer processor (essentially, it’s faster and uses less power), up to 32GB storage on the Watch8 and 64GB on the Classic, dual-frequency GPS for more precise location tracking, and enough battery to last a busy day, depending on what you do with it.

Now, onto the health features: Samsung has doubled down on making your wrist a mini diagnostics lab. There’s tailored sleep coaching, suggestions on when to hit the pillow based on your circadian rhythm, and detection of signs of sleep apnea. New this year is the Antioxidant Index, which measures your carotenoid levels in just five seconds. Carotenoids are the pigments that give carrots and sweet potatoes their colors, and they’re linked to better health as antioxidants, so Samsung is now telling you if you need to eat your veggies, or at least do more than take photos of them for Instagram.

There’s also a High-Stress Alert, a Mindfulness Tracker for mood logging and breathing exercises, and an Energy Score that combines your physical and mental metrics to tell you whether you should tackle that big presentation or stay under a blanket binge-watching dramas. Runners get a Running Coach that calculates your level on a scale of 1 to 10 and crafts a custom plan to keep you motivated. And if you want to gamify workouts, the Together feature lets you challenge friends or family, which will be great if you’ve ever wanted to beat your spouse at something without the emotional fallout of Monopoly.

If wearing a watch feels too obvious, but you still want to track health metrics, Samsung also offers the $399.99 Galaxy Ring. Available in Titanium Black, Silver, or Gold, it provides up to seven days of battery life, and sizes range from 5 to 15. It’s ideal if you’d like sleep, activity, and heart metrics without adding bulk to your wrist. Think of it as your personal wellness spy.

Galaxy Z Flip7: Big Intelligence in a Petite Frame

Moving up the excitement scale, the Galaxy Z Flip7 takes Samsung’s flip phone concept and enhances it with even more AI, and finally gives it a larger cover screen, making it a bit more competitive at first glance with the Moto Razr Ultra.

This cover screen, which Samsung calls the FlexWindow, is now 4.1″, stretches edge to edge, and peaks at 2,600 nits brightness with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate for fluid visuals. It’s able to let you text back, check schedules, and even snap selfies without unfolding the phone.

The main display is a 6.9″ Dynamic AMOLED screen, designed for immersive scrolling, watching, and gaming. AMOLED stands for Active Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode, which is a type of display that shows deep blacks and vivid colors by lighting each pixel individually.

Samsung has slimmed down the Flip7 to just 188 grams and 13.7mm folded, protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and an Armor Aluminum Frame. There’s also a redesigned hinge for smoother folds and longer durability. For your daily grind, it now features a 4,300mAh battery (the largest yet for this flip series), which translates to roughly 31 hours of video playback; however, real-life mileage will vary, especially if you’re like me and typically spend hours doomscrolling.

Inside, the  Galaxy Z Flip7 runs on Samsung’s custom-tuned 3-nanometer processor, promising faster speeds and better power efficiency. There’s also Samsung DeX support for the first time, which turns your phone into a mini desktop when connected to a larger display – ideal for typing emails without poking out your eyes on the small screen.

The AI additions here are tailored for quick help on the go. Gemini Live, Google’s AI assistant, is built into the FlexWindow. You can ask it to find restaurants for your upcoming trip, pull up your flight details, and save everything to Samsung Notes without ever opening the phone. The camera-sharing feature lets you show Gemini what you’re packing or wearing and ask for suggestions. Basically, it’s the friend you wish you had who gives honest outfit feedback and remembers your flights.

Photo-wise, it features a dual rear camera with a 50-megapixel wide-angle lens and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens, plus Real-Time Filters, a Zoom Slider for adjusting shots without unfolding, Enhanced Nightography for low-light clarity, and Dual Preview so both you and your subject can see the frame on the cover screen. Perfect if you’re taking a group selfie and want to avoid someone blinking at the wrong time.

There’s also the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE, Samsung’s more accessible foldable. It features similar components in a slightly more compact design, boasting a 6.7″ main screen, a 3.4″ cover screen, and a 4,000mAh battery. You still get the 50-megapixel main camera, AI features like Now Brief for daily updates, and flexible design, but at a lower price point. Ideal if you want the folding experience without draining your bank account entirely.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 is available with 256GB or 512GB of storage, starting at $ 1,099.99. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE is available with 128GB or 256GB storage, starting at $899.99.

Galaxy Z Fold7: The Flagship Foldable That Means Business

Finally, for those who live on their phones (and perhaps run their entire business off one), Samsung revealed the Galaxy Z Fold7. This foldable has been engineered to be its thinnest and lightest yet, weighing just 215 grams with an unfolded thickness of 4.2mm. Folded, it’s only 8.9mm thick;  for context, that’s slimmer than many power banks.

Its cover display is now 6.5″ with a 21:9 aspect ratio, which makes typing and scrolling easier when closed. But unfold it, and you’re greeted by an expansive 8″ Dynamic AMOLED main screen that’s 11 percent larger than before. The screen peaks at 2,600 nits for optimal visibility outdoors and utilizes Vision Booster to adjust contrast and brightness for enhanced clarity in direct sunlight.

The Fold7’s hinge has been restructured to distribute stress evenly, reducing creasing and increasing durability. The display utilizes Ultra-Thin Glass that’s 50 percent thicker for enhanced protection and features a Titanium plate layer for added strength.

Under the hood, it runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, Qualcomm’s latest processor specifically tuned for Samsung, offering up to 41 percent faster neural processing, 38 percent faster CPU, and 26 percent faster GPU performance compared to the previous generation. Translation: it will handle AI tasks and heavy multitasking without a meltdown.

The cameras include Samsung’s first 200-megapixel wide-angle shooter in a foldable device, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and up to 30x digital zoom. AI processing enhances every photo for clarity, brightness, and detail, while Night Video reduces noise in low-light recordings. There are also Generative Edit for removing photobombers or filling backgrounds, Portrait Studio for creating stylized shots, and Audio Eraser to eliminate wind or traffic noise from videos.

Samsung’s One UI 8 integrates AI deeply with large-screen productivity. Circle to Search lets you circle anything on-screen to get quick results or tips without switching apps, while AI Results View shows AI-generated content side by side with your original file. Gemini Live is upgraded for contextual help, utilizing what’s on your screen or camera feed. Tools like Drawing Assist and Writing Assist make it easier to annotate, write, and edit without needing to toggle between apps. Whether you’re editing marketing content, reviewing contracts, or planning a dinner party menu, the Fold7 wants to be your everything device.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 is available with 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of storage, starting at $ 1,999.99.

Here’s Michael Josh’s hands-on look at the new Galaxy Z Flip7 and Z Fold7 smartphones.

Availability and Carrier Offers

The Galaxy Watch8 series and new foldables are now available for pre-order on the Samsung site, starting today, with general availability scheduled to begin on July 25th.

AT&T

AT&T isn’t letting Samsung’s big foldable party pass by without showing off its own perks. For a limited time, anyone trading in an eligible phone – any year, any condition, even that scratched-up relic lurking in your kitchen drawer – can get up to $1,100 off the Galaxy Z Fold7 or Z Flip7. This effectively slashes the price of these premium devices to something slightly more digestible for your wallet.

But AT&T isn’t stopping there. They’re also sweetening the deal with what they’re calling a triple bundle offer. With the purchase of a Galaxy Z Fold7 or Z Flip7, you can tack on a Galaxy Watch8 and a Tab A9+ 5G tablet for just 99 cents per month each. Yes, you read that right. For less than the price of a drive-thru coffee, you walk away with two brand-new devices every month.

For those concerned about plan lock-ins, AT&T points out that these deals don’t require the most expensive plan on their roster. Existing Unlimited Your Way customers can access them without changing their current plan, and if you’re the type who needs the latest tech every year, AT&T offers its Next Up Anytime program, letting you upgrade to the newest Samsung Galaxy annually for an extra monthly fee.

AT&T Business customers aren’t left out of the fun, either. They can pick up the Galaxy Z Flip7 starting at $199.99 or the Galaxy Z Fold7 from $899.99, along with a three-year service commitment, and optional Business Protect coverage for drops, spills, and mechanical breakdowns – ideal if your phone often doubles as a coaster between meetings.

Xfinity Mobile and Comcast Business Mobile

Comcast is also coming out swinging with foldable deals for both its consumer and business customers. Starting today, Xfinity Mobile and Comcast Business Mobile subscribers on a Premium Unlimited or Unlimited Premium Flex plan can score the new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 or Z Flip7 FE essentially for free with an eligible trade-in. If you’ve got an old phone lying around – even if it’s not exactly showroom-ready – it might just cover the full cost of your new foldable. For those aiming higher, Comcast is knocking a hefty $1,100 off the Galaxy Z Fold7 with a trade-in, or offering $500 off if you don’t have a device to swap.

Preorders are live now and run through July 24, giving you a little time to decide whether your current phone is worth sacrificing to the tech gods for one of Samsung’s newest foldables. Comcast is also dangling another carrot: if you’re locked into another carrier, they’ll pay up to $500 per line (up to five lines) to help you break free from your current contract. That could mean up to $2,500 back in your pocket if your entire family is ready to defect.

It’s worth noting that Xfinity Mobile is only available to Xfinity Internet customers, but they’re bundling aggressively to make it tempting. New nationwide internet plans now come with a line of Xfinity Mobile included for a year, plus unlimited data, a WiFi gateway, and cybersecurity protection – all with pricing locked in for five years. Add in their WiFi PowerBoost, which Comcast claims has increased mobile speeds by 150%, and it seems they’re aiming to give traditional carriers a run for their money – or at least ensure you have fewer excuses to avoid that upgrade itch.

Verizon

Verizon isn’t about to let its rivals have all the foldable fun. Starting today, they’re offering the Galaxy Z Flip7 in Blue Shadow, Coralred, and Jetblack for $30.55 per month over 36 months (retail $1,099.99), and the Galaxy Z Fold7 in Blue Shadow, Silver Shadow, and Jetblack for $55.55 per month over 36 months (retail $1,999.99) – all at 0% APR, of course, because interest is so last century.

But if you’re feeling thrifty, here’s where it gets interesting. Verizon is guaranteeing up to $1,100 off the Galaxy Z Fold7 or a completely free Galaxy Z Flip7 with an eligible trade-in on an Unlimited Ultimate plan; yes, “eligible” in this case covers any condition for select manufacturers. So that battered phone currently serving as a glorified paperweight might finally earn its keep.

They’re also running a buy-one-get-one deal. If you buy a Galaxy Z Flip7 or Z Fold7 on Unlimited Ultimate or Unlimited Plus, you’ll get another 256GB Galaxy Z Flip7 on the house, as long as you’re willing to add a new line. So, if your significant other has been eyeballing your phone upgrades with envy, now’s your chance to win their undying admiration (at least until the next Samsung launch).

Verizon hasn’t forgotten its business customers either. Businesses adding a new line or upgrading can save up to $1,000 on the Galaxy Z Flip7 or Fold7 with select trade-ins and My Biz Plan, as long as you toss in a $20 monthly add-on. Because apparently, even corporate generosity has caveats.

If you’re looking to accessorize your foldable with a matching wrist companion, Verizon is letting you snag a Galaxy Watch8 for $0 a month over 36 months (retail $399.99) or a Galaxy Watch8 Classic for just $5 a month (retail $549.99) when you buy a Galaxy Z Flip7 or Fold7 on myPlan. Both options are arguably cheaper than your daily cold brew habit.

For the AI-curious, Verizon is bundling six months of Google AI Pro when you buy a Galaxy Z Flip7 or Fold7 on Unlimited Ultimate or Unlimited Plus. After that, you can keep it for $10 a month, half off the usual $19.99 price, in case you’re counting pennies while your phone drafts your next email for you.

And finally, for those who enjoy living on the edge of civilization, the Galaxy Z series comes with free Skylo-powered satellite messaging, enabling emergency or general messaging even when cellular coverage is a distant memory. Whether you’re hiking in the wilderness or hiding from your inbox, you can still text your friends to brag about it.

Boost Mobile

Boost Mobile is getting in on the foldable frenzy for the first time, announcing that it’s now offering Samsung’s Galaxy Fold and Flip devices for pre-order starting today at BoostMobile.com. If you’re already committed to living your life on a hinge, Boost’s promotions might make the jump a little gentler on your wallet.

Here’s how it works. Customers can get up to $1,100 off the Galaxy Z Fold7, Z Flip7, or Z Flip7 FE simply by signing up for Boost Mobile’s Infinite Access for Galaxy plan, which runs $65 per month. That plan comes with unlimited talk, text, and data, a brand-new Galaxy Fold or Flip device every year, $0 down with no trade-in required, global talk and text, and Boost Mobile’s new Store-to-Door Setup & Activation. Because apparently, getting a phone delivered wasn’t enough – now it arrives hand-delivered with full setup included, like you’re royalty who refuses to touch a SIM tray.

For those paying full price upfront, Boost is sweetening the pot with a free year of wireless service when you pick up the Galaxy Z Fold7, Z Flip7, or Z Flip7 FE with the $25 per month Unlimited plan. Alternatively, the $25 monthly credit can be applied toward the pricier Unlimited+ ($50/month) or Unlimited Premium ($60/month) plans. Either way, it’s a chance to reclaim some dignity from your monthly wireless bill while still walking away with a device that folds into a neat little square.

The Store-to-Door Setup & Activation service is worth highlighting. Boost Mobile promises hand-delivery and setup within a two-hour window of your choice at no extra cost when you purchase a premium device with the Infinite Access plan. Their team of experts will activate your phone, transfer your number and apps, move everything from your old device, and answer all your burning questions. It’s ideal if you want the full tech concierge treatment without leaving your house – or if you just don’t want to figure out where the SIM eject tool landed this time.
