The Lowdown
Overall, I’m incredibly impressed with the Splash Jump Rope Mat. At $129, it’s not the cheapest workout mat out there, but it’s such good quality that it’s likely to be the only one you’ll need! Crossrope really put a lot of thought into not only the mat itself but the strap that holds it together. It’s a well-built strap with a buckle so you can keep it tightened nicely.
Overall
Pros
- Very well-constructed
- Rolls up nicely
- Cushioned just enough to add a little spring
- Very grippy even on slippery surfaces
- Offers good proprioception and grip for all sorts of workouts
Cons
- Might take a few tries to get it re-rolled the first few times properly until you get a feel for it
I’ve reviewed a lot of fitness devices over the years, but the Crossrope Jump Rope set is one I use at least weekly. They’re well built and amazing for high-intensity interval workouts and other short cardio bursts. The good folks at Crossrope know that working out is more comfortable if you’ve got the right surface under your feet, and so to go along with all the jumping, they gave us the chance to review their Splash Jump Rope Mat!
It’s easy to dismiss this as an extremely expensive workout mat, but trust me, it’s not. The Crossrope Splash Jump Rope Mat has good squish, which helps it absorb the impact of jumping. This way, you don’t make a sound like a crashing elephant every time you jump (maybe that’s just me), and you have a slightly softer surface than a hard floor.
But the mat is good for more than just jump rope. I’ve been using it for all my workouts lately, and I am finally admitting that my stubbornness about not using a dedicated workout mat has meant I’ve been working out on hard mode. Everything is easier on the Splash Mat, from lunges to kettlebell swings. I especially noticed that mountain climbers were slightly less torturous when using the mat; amazing how a grippy surface and not a slippery carpet makes a huge difference!
One of the reasons the Splash Jump Rope Mat functions so well is that it really is incredibly well-made. I’ve dropped weights on it, twisted and climbed and jumped on it, and rolled and unrolled it many times, and it’s still in phenomenal condition. I’ve used yoga mats and other mats before, and they’re always too slippery, or they fray, warp, or tear easily. Crossrope’s mat is SOLID.
The Crossrope Splash Jump Rope Mat rolls up nicely, but it also flattens out well once you lay it down. The oval shape is honestly perfect-I was concerned it would be awkward not having the traditional rectangular shape, but it didn’t impede my flow in the least. It also has a nice undergrip that keeps it from sliding, even on my weirdly slippery rental-grade carpet. What also really impressed me is that the material doesn’t get slick even if you’re sweating up a storm!

If I had to complain about anything, it would be that it took a few tries to get it re-rolled the first few times properly, until I got a feel for it.
And while aesthetics aren’t the most important, it’s worth noting that the design is really fun. On more than one occasion, I’ve sat in a puddle of sweat and studied the swirls and splashes as if they were clouds in the sky. One kind looks like someone stretching, if you look at it without your glasses!
We tend to focus heavily on the actual fitness equipment: weights, machines, etc. But the accessories matter just as much, and the Crossrope Splash Jump Rope Mat is exactly the sort of accessory that takes your workouts to that next step!
The Crossrope Splash Jump Rope Mat retails for $129; it is available directly from the manufacturer.
