If the idea of putting a classic wooden knife block on your kitchen counter just doesn’t appeal to you, then you might have considered putting them in a drawer. That’s torture on your knives; they’ll rattle against each other, eventually becoming dull. Look for a knife block with a modern, architectural style, one like the Edge of Belgravia Black Diamond.
I was sent the Edge of Belgravia Precision Chef Knife Series and the Black Diamond Knife Block. The Precision Chef Knife Series comes with 6 essential kitchen knives, and the Black Diamond knife block is made to hold up to 11 knives.
The $125 Edge of Belgravia Precision Chef Knife Series includes everything you need to slay chopping or cutting duties in your home. This is Belgravia’s least expensive range of coated stainless steel knives, but they are razor-sharp and easy to sharpen so you can maintain their cutting ability.
Included in the set are the following with their descriptions:
Precision Paring Knife: The 15 cm small paring knife is perfect for precision tasks, such as peeling a lemon for the dry martini twist or slicing a strawberry for the cake. Prepare for inspired cooking into the smallest detail.
Precision Chef’s Knife: The 15 cm chef knife is the centerpiece of the Precision range. It is the perfect companion in the kitchen and suitable for most cutting and slicing tasks. The blade has Swiss Ilag non-stick coating to enable precision cooking.
Precision Fish Filleting Knife: The 15 cm filleting knife is the supreme tool for filleting and boning. The Precision filleting knife is slightly dexterous to ensure precision filleting and boning.
Precision Bread Knife: Excellent bread needs an excellent bread knife. The new 19 cm Bread Knife has been extended in length to ensure the perfect bread slice, no matter what size. The serrated edge ensures that the bread remains airy as you cut it. Your sandwiches will be transformed.
Precision Chef Knife: The 19 cm Precision Chef Knife is larger than our current 15 cm version. It is for all of you who think bigger is better. Remarkable in sharpness and size, the precision chef knife will have you dicing, slicing, chopping and mincing absolutely everything you want with unbelievable ease.
Precision Slicing Knife: The 19cm slicing knife has a series of alternating scallops on both sides of the blade. These reduce the drag on the knife and allows for easy separation from the knife’s blade. The result is the paper-thin slices essential for precision cooking.
This is the backside of the Precision Slicing Knife, which shows that they are designed in London, made of stainless steel, and made in China.
This is an absolutely stunning set of knives, don’t you think? And they perform as advertised — they cut extremely well with very little drag whatsoever, whether it’s meats or vegetables being chopped. The only thing missing is a set of steak knives to match, but that’s okay. The Edge of Belgravia knife set makes my other knives look downright tacky, actually. 😉
But what good is a gorgeous set of knives if you have nowhere to safely display them? That’s where the $100 Edge of Belgravia Black Diamond knife block comes in …
Created by London designer, Christian Bird, the Black Diamond brings an avant-garde facelift to any kitchen. It is more than just a knife block; it is a piece of art for the kitchen.
The futuristic concept of this unique floating knife block is reminiscent of the angles of a rough-cut diamond, yet has the style and beauty of contemporary art. Tightly packed, it can fit up to 11 knives, but will appear complete with just two. Edge of Belgravia’s Precision chef knife series, with its daring and diamond-inspired shape acts as a great addition to the Black Diamond knife block, and will leave your kitchen a cut above the rest!
It’s hard to measure because of its open geometric shape, but the Black Diamond knife block is approximately 12″ long by 9″ tall by 5.75″ wide; it appears to be made of matte black plastic with a rubberized coating similar to that found on many mobile phones. The light, open design makes it look like a small piece of sculpture, but it is functional with 11 knife slots running down its top edge. The result is a knife block that protects blades when the knives are inserted, without looking like the traditional wooden block.
Here’s the Black Diamond knife block with all 6 Edge of Belgravia knives inserted. It doesn’t take up much room on my countertop, and the design looks great in my kitchen.
Using the Edge of Belgravia knives is a joy; they cut perfectly and through repeated hand washings (never put your knives in the dishwasher, that’s bad) they have retained their razor-sharp edge. Having the Black Diamond knife block to keep them in means that they are always ready for action and never an eyesore.
The 6-piece Edge of Belgravia Precision Chef Knife Series retails for $125, and the Black Diamond knife block retails for $100; both are available directly from the manufacturer and from other retailers.
