If you’re in the market for a pair of desktop speakers that are easy to set up and use, connect in both wired and wireless modes, sound good, and won’t break the bank, check out the Logitech MX Sound Premium Bluetooth Speakers. No, they aren’t for audiophiles, but for sound and ease-of-use at your desk, they will blow you away.

I use a pair of discontinued Logitech speakers in my office at the synagogue and love them. They put out serious sound that can fill my fairly large space. I initially set them up and paired them with my devices via Bluetooth, and now, whenever I want to listen to music I simply hit play on my phone or iPad.

With the MX Sound Logitech has upped their game. They deliver 24 Watt Peak (12 Watt RMS) power thanks to high-end drivers and uniquely designed port tubes which extend the bass range. They are tuned to “deliver balanced audio that accurately reproduces the sound artists intended” and thanks to a subtle but rather brilliant 10° backward tilt, fire sound toward you when you are sitting at your desk.

A PREMIUM AUDIO EXPERIENCE AT YOUR DESK: Each element of MX Sound has been meticulously selected from the high-end drivers to the premium fabric to the motion-activated back-lit controls to deliver superior audio in a beautiful design. Listen via Bluetooth or a wired connection and seamlessly switch between them with the Logitech Easy-Switch feature. Enjoy an exceptional experience at your desk.

The MX Sound is all about versatility. They can pair with two different Bluetooth devices or, if you prefer, you can connect one device via the 3.5mm audio input and a second device via Bluetooth. That means I can either connect both my iPad and iPhone over Bluetooth or connect my iMac via the 3.5mm input and my iPhone via the Bluetooth. Since I use different devices at different times to listen to music, that kind of flexibility is nice.

But connecting two devices is just part of what makes the MX Sound versatile. Logitech has a technology they are calling Easy-Switch, and it adds to the ease-of-use significantly. With Easy- Switch moving from one audio source to another is as simple as pausing the audio on one device and pressing play on the other. That’s a bit of convenience that may sound unnecessary but, in practice, is quite nice to have.

Inside the box, you get the speakers, a cable for connecting the speakers, an AC adapter and cord, a 3.5mm audio cable and user documentation.

Each speaker is 6.30” high, 6.30” wide and 3.28” deep. The odd bump to one side of each speaker is the port tube that gives these small speakers that extra bit of oomph that will, the first time you try them, surprise you. They have silver accent rings, and fabric covers that are, “designed to complement other Logitech premium desktop accessories such as Craft and MX Master 2S.”

The speakers look good and, for once, don’t have that cookie-cutter design we have all come to know all too well. (You know what I mean!) Nowhere on the speakers will you find any physical buttons. That’s by design. You see, the MX Sound speakers have motion-activated back-lit controls built into one of the two speakers.

They are invisible most of the time but, light up when you bring your hand to the speaker grill. From there you can pair devices, and adjust the volume. It is a smart feature that allows the speakers to maintain a clean, unbroken appearance. And, to save power, after twenty minutes of inactivity, the speakers automatically go into standby mode.

  • Reliable 25-meter line of sight range

The Logitech MX Sound aren’t designed to be your only home stereo system. At under $100 that should not be a surprise. But, as desktop speakers, they are surprisingly good. The sub-$100 price makes them accessible to just about anyone and the sound and ability to not only connect with two devices switch between them with the click of a button or tap on a screen makes them ideal for anyone who loves to listen to music while writing, returning email or doing pretty much anything you might do at your desk. If you are still using the speaker on your phone or tablet for music while working… check them out.
