Standapp helps combat “Sitting Disease”. Price: Free Major features: Standapp aims to help you not sit so much. XtremeMac Microshield Style Case for iPhone 5 Review

Here’s another XtremeMac case for the iPhone 5. This time out it is covered in a layer of cork. This adds visual appeal but also offers some practical benefits such as making it easier to hold than some of the more slippery cases. At under $30 the case is a good deal. Were it to include a screen protector it would be an even better deal. It doesn’t. But I still like the case. From XtremeMac: XtremeMac mixes style and function with these durable cases for the new iPhone 5 device. Durable, hard shell finish protects your iPhone 5 and…

RadTech’s WaveJamr Stereo Bluetooth Wireless Audio Interface Review

I sold my iPhone 4S and bought an iPhone 5. That meant saying goodbye to my iPhone’s 30-Pin connector and welcoming the new smaller dock. I have an iPad mini, and it too has the new dock connector. At least I have a 30-pin dock connector on my iPad. Oh, wait, I ordered the new iPad and will be selling my loaded iPad 3 as soon as it arrives. That means that, within a short while, none of my “30-pin sporting” speaker docks will be of any use to me. Actually, that’s not quite true. Thanks to products like RadTech’s…

Incipio NGP Impact Resistant Case for iPad mini Review

Shortly after we got power and internet back my new iPad mini arrived. I hadn’t had much of a chance to check it out until today but I will say my first impressions are rather positive. Sure, I wish it had a Retina display but there is no doubt that, at least for me, having the lower screen resolution isn’t a deal breaker. I did want to protect my iPad mini from day one and Incipio was kind enough to make sure I had one of their NGP cases in hand before the iPad arrived. (To be precise, I had…

Wreck-It Ralph Film Review

Set in the video game realm, the fast-paced animated adventure-comedy Wreck-It Ralph has touching emotions that succeed where Toy Story started – entertaining audiences while making them care about inanimate objects as strong characters within engaging environments. John C. Reilly voices the main character Wreck-It Ralph, an original character with echoes of Donkey Kong and Hulk who has become tired of his bad guy role in the classic “Fix-it Felix” arcade game. As the game celebrates their 30th year in existence, Ralph takes life-changing steps that take audiences further into the video game realm where electric outlets and cords provide…

AirPivothead Wireless Storage System, Review

As image and video files grow larger and larger, having as much storage available as possible becomes increasingly important. That’s why I always encourage people to buy devices with the most storage they can afford. It is also why we are so fond of Seagate’s GoFlex Satellite drive (read the review). If, however, you want extra storage for your iPad, iPhone or similar movie device, but are looking for something smaller and less expensive you might want to check out the AirPivothead. This diminutive device lets you wirelessly upload, download and stream files. And, since it relies on the SD…

Asgeir and Mo – ‘Danza de Andalucia’ CD Review

Asgeir & Mo – Danza de Andalucia I have been fortunate to see many great artists perform live, several of whom have sadly left us since that time. Thirty years ago I attended a concert of the trio John McLaughlin, Al DiMeola and Paco de Lucia performing ‘flamenco fusion’ on acoustic guitars from their ‘Passion, Grace and Fire’ recording. A few years later I was lucky to see a performance featuring jazz violinist Stéphane Grappelli, who was part of the legendary ‘Hot Club of France’ recordings with Django Reinhardt. Their music was a sort of ‘gypsy swing fusion’ blending jazz…

Icom ID-31A D-star Radio Review

I hope you have been enjoying my series on Ham Radio and its various aspects; today’s post is the first review of a ham radio on Gear Diary! Specifically, I will be reviewing the Icom ID-31A, which is the most advanced handheld radio I have yet owned and the most advanced currently available. What this won’t be is a review heavy on technical testing with scopes and measurements across the board; I just don’t have the lab that the ARRL has, and I can’t do the kind of testing of radios that they do. What it will be is an everyday ham radio enthusiast thoughts…

Another of Lowepro’s more unusual camera bags is the Passport Sling. The Passport Sling doesn’t look like a camera bag… but it is. Here’s a video look followed by some additional details. Libratone Zipp AirPlay Speaker Review

Last week I offered a first look and video of the Libratone Zipp. The airplay speaker fuses European aesthetics with Cupertinian technology. The round speaker works fine at home, but it also runs on battery power so you can take it on the go. Libratone, who already offered two different speakers designed for home use has now made a speaker that is ready to, as they put it, “Leave the House”. From Libratone: Share your music anywhere, anytime! Libratone Zipp is an easy-to-use, wireless sound system wrapped in changeable Italian wool. xPrintServer Home Edition Review

At long last, I have my entire staff using iPads. In addition, after months of planning we have finally set up our school’s iPads for use with the interactive Bar Mitzvah training program I have created. More and more I expect we will see the staff and school iPad being used for a host of different purposes. One of my colleagues did, however, raise a question the other day. “How,” she asked, “do we print from these things if we need to?” It is an EXCELLENT question and, as luck would have it, I had just received a review sample…
