USB Type-C is the way of the future! The new MacBooks have it, extended battery packs are coming out with it (which means easier laptop charging on the go). Heck, the Dell XPS 15 I’m using has what looks like one (it’s marked Thunderbolt, though), and future mobile phones will have it, too. So what’s so great about Type-C exactly?
What’s better than wrapping your laptop in a beautiful wood cover — front, back, and sides? Not much, I tell you. But Toast managed to top all of that goodness by sending me one of their Real Wood MacBook Covers with Gear Diary’s logo emblazoned on the front. The result is absolutely gorgeous!
Apple’s MacBook MagSafe Charger is big, clunky, and gets in the way. From the large white cube, down to the all-white cable being just an eyesore from across the room, I wanted a bit more, so when Zolt sent me over their Zolt Laptop Charger Plus, I knew I’d never use the charger that came with my MacBook Air again.
I’ve had the pleasure of being able to review LaCie’s 4TB Rugged Mini, and I love it! A Portable external hard drive, the Rugged Mini is everything you saw from the original (and larger) LaCie Rugged Raid, but in a smaller design that maximizes its portability, all while giving you a nice flashy orange bumper that protects the device from being dropped. While the Larger Rugged dons both a Thunderbolt connection option, and a USB 3.0 connection which obviously connects to your computer, the Rugged Mini stuck to having just a single USB 3.0 port which sits at the top of…
Announced today at CES, the eBlocker is a completely new and innovative way to reclaim your internet privacy! The eBlocker and eBlocker Pro are two products now being featured on Kickstarter that allow you to combat unauthorized consumer data collection and ad blocking while browsing online. “The internet has evolved into mass surveillance, and most people have no idea how much data is collected without their knowledge and then used against them,” said Christian Bennefeld, founder, eBlocker. “User profiles employed by third parties can result in you paying more for goods, flights, hotels and can even influence insurance rates and…
Do you own a four-wheeler, a snowmobile, a motorcycle, a golf cart, or any vehicle that doesn’t have LoJack, OnStar, or some other form of real-time GPS tracking? If so, then you’ll be interested in the SPOT Trace GPS Tracker. And guess what? It will even work in backpacks, luggage, or other moveable objects that you need to track.

There are a multitude of portable drives available, and we’ve reviewed quite a few of them here. Many are light, fast, have large capacities, and they are very capable, but have you ever seen one that was all of the above and looked as good as the Brinell EVO Wood 250 GB external drive?
Sure, you could put your files on any old thumb drive, but maybe you’d like something a little bit nicer, a little bit faster, and a little bit smaller. The brinell Stick Single Action USB 3.0 flash drive fits that bill — plus it’s got a lovely design.
The one thing about having a Macbook Air is that even though the trackpad is very handy to have, sometimes after a long day in the office, I’ve gotten so used to using a mouse. I can’t really transition from using one to fully depending on Apple’s Trackpad option.
BlueLounge has done it again with the Aaden USB powered charger for charging rechargeable batteries from your laptop or other USB power source. It’s one of those simple accessories you don’t need but, once you have it, you’ll be happy you do. In other words, it’s typical Bluelounge. 🙂 And at just $19.95 it will make a great stocking stuffer.
Epson’s Home Cinema 730HD is an entertainment Projector that we had an opportunity to review, and it honestly didn’t disappoint. Prior to the Epson 730HD I’ve only had experience with one other projector, but the comparison between the two are virtually day and night. The $649.00 projector is the home theatre experience that you’d expect to see on something from MTV Cribs. After unboxing the Epson 730HD, the projector itself was pretty lightweight, coming with the projector itself, a power cord that’s standard side length, and the remote control with AA batteries (which I replaced with rechargeable batteries since the…

The 1TB Buffalo MiniStation Extreme NFC is quite a nice portable hard drive. It’s a portable storage solution that’s also rugged and comes with some neat security features. It has shock protection, water resistance, and dust resistance. It has a built-in USB 3.0 cable for easy connectivity and can use NFC technology to unlock decryption and it’s available for $129.99.
While traveling, once thing that I’ve always hated is sitting in an airport, or on a long train ride somewhere and not having an outlet to plug up my MacBook Air. So I started looking for an external battery pack that was in my budget that wasn’t too gaudy, but would charge up my MacBook in the event I cannot charge my laptop when I get that red 5% alert. There aren’t many of said products on the market, but I did stumble upon the BatteryBox from GBatteries Energy. The BatteryBox certainly isn’t cheap. At $220, it’s cheaper than Lenmar’s…
I have a two-year-old 1TB Western Digital My Book I use for monthly Time Machine backups on my Mac. I paid roughly $150 for it (they’re ~$99 now); at 6.5″ x 5.5″ 2″ it isn’t exactly portable. I’ve been testing a 2TB WD My Passport that measures ~4.25″ x 3.25″ x 0.6″ and costs $99. Hmm, which would you rather?

With May being National Bike Month, and record high temperatures in full effect, this means a lot of folks are commuting and heading to work on their fixies, or whichever two bikes they see fit. The commuting aspect is easy, but unlike having a passenger seat to throw your bag or purse onto, you’ll need a means of putting your gear as well as extra clothes into something. So it only makes sense that Timbuk2, who’s infamous for making quality bags teamed up with Bianchi to celebrate their 130th anniversary. Not only introducing the beautiful Limited Edition Prospect Pack, the…
Looking suspiciously like an evening clutch that I would love to own, the new Braven LUX HD Wireless Speaker is much more than a fashionable portable sound system. Measuring 6.5″ long x 2.6″ wide x 21.8″ deep, this 11.8 ounce speaker offers 12 hours continuous battery life and it can even top-off your phone’s battery.
Earlier this week Google released their newest computer which is pretty much the size of their Chromecast stick, and can honestly be mistaken for a vape pen if there was no branding all over it. The name of the product is the Google Chromebit, and it’s literally the world’s smallest computer.
