Since Apple snatched up Beats, many figured they would start working on a music streaming service, and it looks like they are on their way to that. Late on Friday, Apple released three new colors for their Beats Solo 2 Wireless headphones to match the three available colors of the iPhone 6 & 6 Plus: space gray, gold, and silver.
Designed to compete with the likes of Beats By Dre, I will admit, I was skeptic when I saw the AKG Y55 Headphones arrive at my door. As a self-proclaimed audiophile, I’ve been unimpressed with headphones that just attempt to be bass heavy. But I’m glad I took a few days to test these bad boys out.
I am an early adopter in an industry that doesn’t exactly embrace technology. As a college professor, most of my colleagues have barely figured out Skype, let alone the idea that headphones need not be huge or tethered by wires.
Blue (formerly Blue Microphones) began teasing music-lovers at CES 2014 that a new type of headphone was coming. When the $349 Blue Mo-Fi Headphones were revealed, it was clear the company was not messing around with its initial headphone market entry. The Mo-Fi look and sound unlike any other headphone Judie and I have tried, and we’ve tried a lot!
For the audiophile out there, one thing that a lot of us compromise on when using our mobile phones with headphones is one thing, sound. Thanks to a new Kickstarter by the name of UAMP, the possibility of having more bass for that jamming song, or the HD quality sound you want when watching a movie is now enriched with this audio amplifier.

Dan and I have tried so many headphones that it is easy for us to seem skeptical when something new comes along. That attitude flew out the window when we had some ears-on time with the new Blue Mo-Fi Headphones. Throw what you think you know about traditional over-the-ear headphones out the window, and take a look at these beauties.

Ah, winter in the northeast. This season was made for crackling fires, warm apple cider, heated steering wheels, and… The 808 Soundcap. The Soundcap may sound a bit cheesy but, to be honest, I’m a fan. It promises to keep me warm AND let me enjoy my music this winter. And for just $19.99, it is a great last-minute stocking stuffer.
