I’m not big into killing things so hunting – not for me. That being said, I do like a good shooting game. (I mean, the Hit Man franchise?!?! Awesome!)  I got to see Cabela’s Dangerous Hunts 2013 the other night, and it is pretty amazing. The game has unbelievable graphics, a nice physical rifle to aim and shoot and the addition of heart rate monitors built into the gun itself. Activision’s Press Release puts it this way –”Prepare for a wildly exciting and heart-stopping hunt that challenges gamers like never before!”

The impact of the heart rate monitoring is part to fully appreciate unless you actually see someone playing it or you play the game yourself. So, here’s a quick video I shot at the Pepcom event last week.

“Cabela’s Dangerous Hunts 2013 – a brand new adventure in its successful Dangerous Hunts franchise that introduces the all-new Top Shot Fearmaster wireless controller. This innovative new controller features its own heartbeat sensor that integrates the player’s own heart rate into the game, bridging the gap between controller and authentic hunting experience to make hunting gameplay more realistic than ever.”

The biometric heart rate monitor sensors are built into the controllers’ grips and “gameplay varies based on the player’s ability to control their fear and maintain their cool”. Did I mention it is awesome? The graphics and the feedback from the sensors pulls you right into the game.

As for availability,

Cabela’s Dangerous Hunts 2013 will be available with the Top Shot Fearmaster on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation ®3 on Oct. 23 for $79.99. The game will also be available with the Top Shot Fearmaster controller for the Wii for $59.99 (the Wii Top Shot Fearmaster does not include heart rate sensors). Cabela’s Dangerous Hunts 2013 can be purchased without the Top Shot Fearmaster on Xbox 360, PlayStation®3 for $39.99, and $29.99 on Wii.

Having a father who was heavily involved in early laser and fiber-optical research, Dan grew up surrounded by technology and gadgets. Dan’s father brought home one of the very first video games when he was young and Dan remembers seeing a “pre-release” touchtone phone. (When he asked his father what the “#” and “*” buttons were his dad said, “Some day, far in the future, we’ll have some use for them.”) Technology seemed to be in Dan’s blood but at some point he took a different path and ended up in the clergy. His passion for technology and gadgets never left him.
