While Gorilla Glass is amazingly strong and scratch-resistent, it is not impervious – and for the price we pay for smartphones, it makes sense to protect them as much as possible. Screen protectors have been around since the earliest touch-screen devices in the early 90s, and while they are not the necessity they were back then, having something to protect your precious screen from damage is still a good idea. The folks at TRÜ have a new solution – the TRÜ-FIT.
Description
TRÜ FIT delivers a stress-free screen protector application in just a few easy steps. This elegantly designed package serves as the applicator itself, taking the hassle out of getting a perfect alignment on your device by providing ease and simplicity with an eco-friendly solution.
The interior packaging of the recyclable package acts as an application base with printed step-by-step instructions, while the HD Anti-Glare Screen Protector Film is made of high-grade material with cutting edge technology, a precision die-cut fit and a static-cling adhesive that leaves no residue upon removal.
Overall Impressions
I mentioned that using a screen protector helps protect your glass screen even if you have Gorilla Glass. How does that work? Gorilla Glass gets compromised if a sharp flaw penetrates too deep into the surface. But adding an addition layer to absorb and dissipate the stress, your screen is much safer. So putting on some type of screen protection is a good idea.
Anti-glare screen protectors give the same level of protection, but owing to the light-diffusing properties of the film they make the screen much more viewable in direct sunlight at the cost of a bit of overall clarity. Depending on how you use your phone this trade-off may or may not work. One thing to note is that the quality of anti-glare films have improved considerably in just the last few years – at least based on comparing these to the ones I put on my Droid Pro in 2010.
TRÜ has a developed a system called the FIT that is a fully integrated system: you get the tape ready and place the protector in the tray. Then you pull off the cover film to expose the adhesive layer. Your phone is them pushed into the tight-fitting tray to mate with the screen protector. After removing your phone the screen protector is adhered, and all that is left is to squeeze out any air bubbles.
The procedure is simple, well documented, and all necessary cues are included to help you succeed at installing the screen protector. I messed up by not orienting the screen protector properly the first time, but it was easily corrected and immediately was securely in place. If you are looking for a high quality screen protector set for your iPhone 5, at $19.95 the TRÜ-FIT is definitely worth checking out!
