Scosche BoomBottle MM Is Great for a Summer Full of Music Fun

We recently looked at the Scosche MagicMount Pro Charge and the Speck Presidio Mount Case designed to take advantage of its magnetic wireless charging. The Scosche BoomBottle MM is part of the same line. It is a Bluetooth waterproof speaker with magnets to hold an iPhone in a Speck Presidio Mount or attached steel plates in place; it’s awesome.

I’ve reviewed a number of Bluetooth speakers that are part of the Scosche BoomBottle line. When I was getting ready to review their MagicMount Pro and saw a new BoomBottle was being released, I was interested. When I saw that “BoomBottle is now part of the MagicMount Family” I knew I wanted to review it. I’m glad I did.

The BoomBottle has always been a favorite of mine. The cylindrical speaker delivers impressive sound regardless of water you place it. Add in the fact that the size and shape are perfect to fit into a bike water bottle rack or a backpack pocket designed for water bottles, and you have a speaker that can go pretty much anywhere you do. There’s more though. Waterproofing and great battery life made the BoomBottle a no-compromise outdoor speaker. The Scosche BoomBottle MM keeps all that and adds some great new features.

The rechargeable battery delivers up to 12 hours of music enjoyment. The ability to pair it with another BoomBottle speaker means you can get big, stereo sound. And the inclusion of a microphone means you can make and receive calls without the need to pick up your phone. That would be enough to make the $129.99 BoomBottle MM worthy of recommendation. Scosche wasn’t quite done, however.

BoomBottle Opener: Open your favorite beverage with the built-in bottle opener on the back of the speaker.

Because the company knows that people purchase the BoomBottle for use outdoors, they decided to add a bottle opener into the top of the speaker. It doesn’t call attention to itself but sits quietly in the top of the speaker waiting to open up your favorite summer beverage.

Then there is the IP67 rating. That means the speaker is both water and dust-proof. Take the BoomBottle MM out for the day, and don’t worry about it getting wet! The music will play on no matter what you throw at it.

Finally, there is the feature that gives the BoomBottle MM the “MM” moniker. This speaker is part of the MagicMount line and, as a result, has 4 neodymium magnets built into the angled top of the speaker as well as the bottom.

With an integrated MagicMount is the portable solution for listening to music or audio anywhere from your smartphone or Bluetooth compatible device while it’s secured to the speaker.

The magnetic top creates a holder for your iPhone so long as you are using Speck’s case or have installed one of the Scosche plates designed for this line of products. Scosche includes one plate in the box with the speaker along with instructions on placement. This is especially true if your phone has Qi-enabled wireless charging.

The BoomBottle MM doesn’t charge your phone but you don’t want to place the plate anywhere it will interfere with the charging process.

There are also seven neodymium magnets built into the base of the speaker. That means you can place it on a metal surface and it won’t shift or get knocked over. And, if you want to use this feature with a surface that is not metallic. You can use the included metal base plate designed for Turing any surface into a MagicMount speaker mount. Thin carefully about where to place the metal plate since the adhesive is designed to be used just one time.

In addition, the bottom of the speaker has 1/4” threaded screw mount so you can place the speaker on a tripod or similar mounting system.

In addition to including the speaker, a USB-A to USB-C charging cable (yes! Scosche has moved to USB-C!), a smartphone plate, a metallic base plate, and instructions Scosche also includes a carabiner. That way, if you don’t want to secure the speaker using the bottom magnets, you can hang it from pretty much anything.

The controls are along one side of the speaker. There are volume up/down buttons as well as a multipurpose button that sits between the two.

A rubber door seals the speaker but opens to reveal the three buttons, the USB-C charging port, and an aux-in input if you want to use a wired connection.

  • Magnetically Mount Your Device to the BoomBottle MM While Also Magnetically Mounting the BoomBottle MM to Most Metal Surfaces
  • Built-in Bottle Opener
  • Built-in Microphone for Hands-free Calling
  • Unique Bottle Design Fits Into Water Bottle Cages and Cup Holders
  • Rechargeable Battery for up to 12 Hours of Music Playback
  • Dual Pairing for True Stereo Sound
  • IP67 Rated Waterproof / Dustproof Construction

Most importantly, the BoomBottle MM won’t disappoint in the sound department. It is under $130 but delivers big, impressive sound. It won’t disappoint. That’s thanks to having dual, 45mm speakers on board along with two passive subwoofers that pump out 12W of power. (For those who love numbers, it has a frequency range of 80Hz – 18Khz.) The internal 4000mAh battery will keep the speaker running all day and the 1.25lbs weight means it won’t weigh you down.

The BoomBottle MM is a great next step for the Scosche BoomBottle line. The magnetic mounts mean you can keep your phone safe and the speaker can be placed wherever you want. The waterproofing means the speaker is up for anything. The design means you can keep it in your backpack’s water bottle holder. And the big sound means your tunes will help keep the party going. I love this speaker and just may pick up a second one so I can try out its ability to pair two of them to create a true stereo experience anywhere, anytime. Check it out here.

What I Like: As has been the case since the first BoomBottle, the sound is impressive for something this size; Offers a full day of music; Waterproof; Bottle opener built-in; Can double up on speakers for stereo sound; Magnets for phone and locking into position

What Needs Improvement: I wish they included extra plates so you can use different phones and create different locations to hold your speaker
