The Lowdown

The Rockport Men’s Total Motion DresSport Slip-On‘s quality is superb. The leather is perfectly tanned, and the seams are tight and straight; there are no loose threads. When I first put them on, I couldn’t believe how comfortable they were. I’ve now worn them while leading services several times and have found them to be almost as comfortable as my UGG slippers.

Overall

Pros

  • The shoes look great
  • They are easy to slip on and off
  • They are comfortable to wear for long periods and while standing
  • A breathable performance lining helps to prevent moisture and odor
  • The elastic makes the shoes comfortable to wear even if your feet or ankles are a bit swollen

Cons

  • Nothing

I spent over a year wearing my UGG slippers all day, every day. They were great as part of my lockdown wardrobe but, now that I’m doing more and more outside of my house, I need nicer shoes. The Rockport Men’s Total Motion DresSport Slip-Ons are dressy enough for any occasion, yet they are almost as comfortable as my well-worn slippers.

During the pandemic, my wardrobe underwent a bit of a transition. In addition to the slippers I wore daily, I wore Prana Stretch Zion pants and t-shirts and ¼ zips made from merino wool. Now that things are opening back up, I can still wear the Prana pants and my merino wool shirts, but unless I also want to wear a bathrobe and look like John Gotti, the slippers had to go. I was actively searching for a comfortable pair of dress shoes when Rockport offered me the opportunity to review their Total Motion Active Mesh Sneaker. They were, and are, among the most comfortable sneakers I have ever worn.

I wondered if the Rockport Men’s Total Motion DresSport Slip-On would be as comfortable. Lucky for me, they kind enough to send a pair for review; even luckier for me, these slip-ons are incredibly comfortable.

Available in a choice of tan or black, the clean lines of these leather shoes have an understated elegance.

Here’s how the company describes them:

Building on our past, forging the future—Total Motion DresSports slip-on are grounded in Rockport’s legacy of innovation. Our exclusive Total Motion architecture enhances your foot’s natural movement, and a truly lightweight design means you never feel dragged down. A breathable lining and full arch support offer both breathability and stability, so you feel cool, comfortable, and secure throughout your day’s journey.

When you put the shoes on, they look like a fairly simple leather slip-on.

What isn’t apparent to the casual observer is that there is a tremendous amount of technology built into the shoe. For example, they have a breathable performance lining that helps to prevent moisture and odor. Moreover, they bring the same technology that makes the Active Mesh Total Motion Sneakers I reviewed so comfortable to a pair of dress shoes. Rockport’s truTECH technology provides shock absorption at the heel. Addition comfort and support come from:

  • A TPU molded stability plate that provides midfoot support and flexibility.
  • An EVA outsole that offers flexible, lightweight impact absorption
  • An EVA heel cup that gives the slip-ons reliable support, a secure fit, and extra cushioning

And because these are slip-on, the shoes have a small piece of elastic fabric on each side. This lets you comfortably slip the shoe on while at the same time keeping your foot securely inside. This elastic material also helps the shoes remain comfortable when my ankles swell due to my having rheumatoid arthritis. These aren’t orthopedic shoes, mind you, but the design that makes them easy to slip on and off does have side benefits.

When I took my review sample out of the box, I was impressed. The Rockport Men’s Total Motion DresSport Slip-On’s quality is superb. The leather is perfectly tanned, and the seams are tight and straight; there are no loose threads. When I first put them on, I couldn’t believe how comfortable they were. I’ve now worn them while leading services several times and have found them to be almost as comfortable as my UGG slippers. Better still, the first time I wore them, Raina commented, “Are those new? Those are really nice!” I agree.

The Rockport Men’s Total Motion DresSport Slip-On sells for $125, and it is available in tan or black and sizes 6.5 – 14 in medium width and 6.5 – 13 in wide; the shoes are available directly from the manufacturer.
