It seems like what we want and expect from our phones just keeps increasing. What started as just making phone calls on the go has rapidly evolved into a video game console, high-end camera, and even artificially intelligent digital assistants. Our phones need to work even harder to keep up with us, and Qualcomm‘s new Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 processor is aiming to outrun the competition!

Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 Mobile Platform

Qualcomm has a slate of powerful processors, but they’re looking to raise the bar again with Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2. Their goal here is to bring flagship performance to mid-range phones. What does that mean in practice?

You’re going to get over a 50% improvement in CPU over the original 7 series, plus 13% power efficiency for longer battery life. Gaming pops with Auto Variable Rate Shading and Volumetric Rendering for impressive graphics, while Snapdragon Sound means lag-free sound and music.

On the camera front, there’s support for mega low-light mode, where 30 images are taken and merged for the best low-light shots. It also supports up to 200MP as well as HDR. (Remember when we were impressed with 2MP on the first iPhone?!)

Connectivity-wise, this will also support WiFi connections of up to 3.6Gbps, plus of course, 4G/5G.

It’s also exciting to note this is the first Snapdragon 7-Series to support dual SIM. That’s becoming increasingly important, especially for people who travel or use a phone for both work and personal, and having it as a feature in the Snapdragon series is great!

Finally, the boosted processor means better AI as well. It supports the Qualcomm Sensing Hub, which means it can automatically pick up user activity and connect the context. It will also be able to support AI Super Resolution, which means games and photos can be automatically upscaled to look better even if the main image is lower quality.

Pretty cool, right? You can learn more about Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 here.
