The Lowdown

While I pride myself on cooking and smoking meat, I had never made a perfect steak until now; the Dreo ChefMaker truly delivers on all of the claims it makes! Clean-up is simple (just put the pan in the dishwasher), and the companion app works great.

Cons

Anytime I can find an excuse to cook, I jump on it. Recently, I was able to try out the Dreo ChefMaker. Sure, we have all seen the next big thing in cooking, so how good can it possibly be? Well, I gave it a try, and let me tell you, I was impressed! Let’s take a look.

The Dreo ChefMaker is a Combi Fryer that uses complex algorithms, water mist, and a cooking probe to cook to perfection. Anyone can apply world-class cooking techniques with results worthy of a true chef. I was skeptical at first.

We have all seen the infomercials and sales pitches for the next big thing, only to be disappointed in the device, but — as you’ll see — the Dreo ChefMaker delivers on these promises, and my mind is blown!

Dreo ChefMaker and included accessories

I love that there aren’t a ton of parts to misplace.

The Dreo ChefMaker package includes the appliance, a cooking probe, two cooking trays, and literature on how to use it.

I decided to jump right on and throw the ultimate meat at the ChefMaker: perfect three-inch ribeyes!

I had saved these steaks for a special day, so I was anxious about how they would come out in this new device. And yet, why not go big from the get-go?

First, I patted the meat dry, rubbed some olive oil on the steaks and a generous coating of my favorite steak seasoning, and let them sit for a few minutes.

The probe is placed in the thickest part of the meat. I gambled with doing two steaks at once, so I picked the thickest cut and installed it.

The display on theDreo ChefMaker’s front is full color and beautiful; using the menus is intuitive and self-explanatory. I chose beef and just followed along.

There are a ton of options on the menu. Next, I chose ribeye steak.

Since we are going all in, right out of the box, I want the best experience for the most amazing steaks, so, of course, we want Sous Vide Flavor!

You can set the time to range from 45-75 minutes; the algorithm will dictate the cooking time.

I went with medium rare and started the cooking process. The device reminded me to add water since I am using a CombiCook program.

The water reservoir has a fill line on top of the machine; the fact that it reminded me to add the water is a great feature.

And the steaks are now cooking!

There are several steps, and the ChefMaker uses the temperature probe and the computer algorithm to guide and adjust the process. The drawer has a window in the front and a light if you like to watch the cook happen.

These steaks took 54 minutes. Choosing the classic cook option reduces the time considerably if you do not want the long wait.

The cooking process is automatic.

I stressed that the crust might not form during the Browning stage while watching the time.

The ChefMaker connects to Wi-Fi, and the mobile app is intuitive.

Dreo ChefMaker app

The app acts as a display and can send commands to the device. It also allows the cook to be followed from a distance.

The Dreo ChefMaker app

There are also tons of recipe ideas and other information on the app; it is a great companion to the Dreo ChefMaker.

Once finished, I realized the importance of trusting the process; if you do, the meat will come out flawlessly every time.

Finished ribeye steaks from the Dreo ChefMaker

Oh my! The steaks look great!

After carefully removing the meat and the probe without burning myself, I let the steaks rest for ten minutes, during which I tossed some fresh garden green beans into the steak juice and some butter, and I started the Dreo ChefMaker’s air fryer function.

The crust on these steaks is the real deal! I have never gotten a perfect crust while maintaining medium-rare meat temperature!

My teenage boys actually cheered when I sliced the steak open and found the perfect medium rare from edge to edge. Juicy, tender, perfect. OMG!

The Dreo ChefMaker is truly a revolutionary device.

I unboxed, followed the first burn instructions, and tossed in two of the most excellent steaks I have ever cooked, and they came out fantastic.

While this is on Kickstarter, I can assure you that the product is real; it is well-engineered and works beautifully. My oldest is going to the store today, and he told me he’d be getting some salmon to cook tonight in the ChefMaker; I have no doubt that it will be amazing.

The Dreo ChefMaker is truly one of the most useful kitchen appliances I have ever tried, and while it’s not large enough to use when cooking for large groups, for a family of four, it is just right.

The Dreo ChefMaker can be purchased with a $229 pledge; it is available on Kickstarter, with delivery expected in August of this year.
