Cons

The MeatStick is a wireless meat thermometer that makes monitoring smoked meats clean and easy. The advantage of wireless sensors is evident as there is less tangle danger, and placement can be anywhere in the pit. Wireless meat thermometers have come a long way, and the MeatStick 4X is a perfect example of this advanced technology.

The Meatstick 4X is a dishwasher, a safe and deep-fryer-proof wireless meat thermometer. The new stick includes three internal temp sensors (32-212 degrees) and one ambient sensor that can read temps up to 572 degrees.

The MeatStick 4 is stored and charged in a single case that runs off 2 AA batteries; I love that it does not have to be plugged in to charge.

The charger also doubles as a built-in range extender, connecting to the mobile app up to 650′. I found the connection suitable for a long distance in the wide open. As with any Bluetooth device, this distance is cut down through walls and across a house.

With four sensors, the MeatStick 4X does a great job of showing the exact temperatures of the meat and the ambient temperature in the smoker. While many pits and smokers have an ambient thermometer built-in, the precise temperature of the meat is often not the same as where the provided probe is located. All of these readings are easy to see in the mobile app.

The MeatStick app allows users to choose the type of meat they are cooking and any details of doneness and sets the temperatures accordingly. The probe connects fast and easily, and I found the app easy to navigate and see all the information at once.

I did not use a timer, but the temperature alarm worked perfectly. It sends the alarm early to allow the meat to be checked and not get overdone.

All the information needed is on one page in the app, along with a cooking graph. The setup is easy to read and adjust. Elapsed time and a possible time remaining add some help in planning, making sides, and prepping for dinner.

I used the MeatStick 4X while smoking a ham for Thanksgiving, and it sure made the process smooth, especially when I had football practice, plus many other items to prep while the meat smoked.

I particularly like how the information is displayed on the app. Each of the four temperature points can easily be seen, along with target temperatures and a time left estimate.

The charging case doubles as an extender, connecting the probe anywhere around the house and freeing up time to prep other items for the meal. The case only uses two AA batteries, making the entire product truly wireless. It is nice not to mess with charging cables or wires in the smoker!

If you are in the market for a wireless meat thermometer with four sensors and tons of features, the MeatStick 4X is a great and affordable option. If you don’t need such an extended range, check out the MeatStick 4, which has a range of up to 164′ and is priced slightly lower.

The MeatStick 4X retails for $124.99; it is available directly from the manufacturer and other retailers, including Amazon.
