Cons

MEATER has been purchased by Traeger, bringing new products to their already incredible lineup. The MEATER 2 Plus brings wireless meat probe thermometers to the next level with its all-new design and features. The new edition is all stainless and can be used in any cooker, including deep fryers. Let’s take a dive into its features.

The MEATER 2 Plus includes MEATER’s Smart Temp technology, which uses five sensors to find the true internal temperature of the meat up to 221ºF, as well as an ambient sensor for temperatures up to 932ºF; that’s right — you can even use the MEATER 2 Plus when searing or cooking over an open flame!

The MEATER 2 Plus probe is 100% waterproof and comes with precise calibration to keep temps exact. With no wires, this stainless steel thermometer can get accurate temperature readings from your meat while also monitoring the ambient cooking temps.

The MEATER 2 Plus is stored and charged in a handsome bamboo case that holds a single AAA battery; there are rubber feet and magnets on the bottom. One AAA battery provides two years of fast charging, and I love that the magnets are on the case because it means I can leave it on my smoker shelf, close to the probe.

When charging, you must ensure the probe is inserted properly, as shown in this photo.

Connecting the MEATER 2 Plus to the mobile app is super easy. The app walks you through the entire process, and I was up and cooking in minutes. Using long-range Blluetooth 5.2, you can be up to 250′ away and still get accurate readings through the app.

There are also short videos available on the app to help you set up the cook, as well as information on proper resting and reverse searing. I recommend watching these videos before you use the probe, at least the first time.

I chose to cook a tri-tip for Christmas lunch and followed the methods in the video. After the meat smoked on the Traeger Ironwood [review coming soon], I let it rest, then seared it in a cast iron pan with Wagyu beef tallow.

During the cook, the app displays the meat’s internal temperature, the target temperature, and the cooking ambient temperature.

Once the cook has been going long enough, the app will also estimate the time remaining to reach the target. I have found the remaining time to be pretty accurate. The display is easy to read, color-coded, and works perfectly.

Once the meat is finished cooking, you will get an alarm to take the meat from the heat.

The entire process is simple and has worked flawlessly for me. The Bluetooth range on the MEATER 2 Plus is also really good. I had no problem losing connection from anywhere within my house. You can also share your cook and change the view to a graph.

A gorgeous cook done using the MEATER 2 Plus.

Once the meat was pulled, it was cooked perfectly; the MEATER 2 Plus performed perfectly and was easy to use. The meat was exactly as I wanted after the sear, and everyone at the table was blown away by how great the meal was.

Cooking temperatures make or break cooked meats, so why not get a MEATER 2 Plus and get almost guaranteed perfection?
