Imagine a smartphone that manages to tick every one of your “what I want/need” boxes. I’m guessing that the Huawei Mate 20 Pro would come very close to doing just that. Packing a 6.39″ screen, a fast Kirin 980 processor, a fantastic Leica camera array, and many other features, there is much to celebrate in Huawei’s latest flagship Android smartphone.
Today, OnePlus announced their brand new OnePlus 6T, and to kick off their new flagship phone, OnePlus is announcing that T-Mobile is their first US wireless partner to carry a OnePlus device in their stores. You’ll finally be able to fondle one in person before buying!
If you’ve read my previous review about the NVIDIA SHIELD, then you know how much I love it. The ability to watch YouTube, DirecTV Now, HBO, Netflix, as well as play games, makes it a must-have device not just in my home but also when I travel.
This week, the Huawei Mate 20 series was introduced to the world during a press conference in London, England. While the Mate 20 Pro was undoubtedly the star of the show, the Porsche Design Huawei Mate 20 RS got a very warm reception, too, exciting all who appreciate a more refined, limited edition, and yet still technologically advanced device.
Today is shaping up to be an exciting day because Huawei is finally revealing their new Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro. Rather than the all-metal bodies that previous Mate versions utilized, the Huawei Mate 20 series now has a stunning all-glass body reminiscent of the flagship P20 and P20 Pro. But that’s just the beginning…
Every time it seems like smartphones have become homogeneous and boring, you can count on LG to make it interesting again. They’ve tried modular phones and phones with secondary screens, but their newest idea is their best by far: the LG V40 ThinQ is a FIVE-CAMERA smartphone. And US Cellular is making it an even sweeter deal for their customers!
Honor wowed us with the power, quality, and value of their phones. The Honor View10 is a powerful device at an accessible price. (Read the review.) Now, the Honor 8X is here to make powerful larger-screen devices accessible to all. Its huge screen and powerful specs make this an accessible phone for those who don’t want to compromise.
The faster technology improves, the better the features are that trickle down to mid-tier devices. Samsung is definitely proving this to be true with their newest smartphones, the Galaxy A6, J3, and J7, and their new tablet, the Galaxy Tab A 10.5″.
The annual IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin covers about 160,000 square meters and almost 2,000 exhibitors. Whether it was on the floor, at a press conference, at the media-only Showstoppers event, or in private meetings, we scoured IFA to find the latest and greatest to make up Gear Diary’s Best of IFA 2018 list.
Samsung first introduced the Galaxy Note series in 2011 with a huge stylus-driven 5.3″ screen and a direct appeal to power users who wanted more than current small-screen devices could offer. Today a variety of smartphones with screens larger than 5.3″ are available bearing a ‘Plus’, XL or other monikers to differentiate them.
For a market that’s supposedly dying, tablets are getting an awful lot of attention again. There’s still demand for a screen that’s bigger than a phone, smaller than a computer, and able to entertain you or be productive. Alcatel’s new 3T 8 isn’t flashy, but on paper it’s a solid workhorse tablet for a very good price.
If thoughts of QWERTY keyboards give you a little thrill, you’ll like that BlackBerry is giving us more options. In addition to the BlackBerry Key2, you can also consider the new Key2 LE. The BlackBerry Key2 LE has slightly fewer premium features than the Key2, but at $399 for the 32GB and $449 for the 64GB, it’s an attractive alternative.
The death of the Android tablet has been greatly exaggerated. Or at least premature. Lenovo seems to think there’s some life in the tablet market still, and they’ve a slew of budget Android tablets to prove it.
Over the last few years, phones have gotten bigger and bigger. And their prices have increased to match their size. Seriously, who ever thought a premium phone would sell for over a $1000? Fortunately, phones like the Alcatel 3V have arrived. They are big, but at just $150, they don’t have a price that matches their size.
At the Unveiled event today in NYC, Samsung did as expected and announced the new Galaxy Note9, but they also managed to throw in a couple of welcome surprises with the new Galaxy Watch and a sneak peek of the Galaxy Home. Let’s take a look at these new devices!
Want a smartphone, but don’t want to pay more than £99? If you are in one of the areas where it’s available, you can do just that with the Honor 7S. Available in Mexico, Columbia, Serbia, South Africa, Egypt, the Philippines, and parts of Europe, the Honor 7S strips away many flagship expectations to inexpensively deliver a smartphone experience.
Last year, I reviewed the BlackBerry KEYone, and I found it to be an excellent update to the BlackBerry line. A year has passed, and the BlackBerry KEY2 is now available. Should you get one?
I’ll start this review by saying that the Huawei P20 isn’t going to be as simple to buy as most other current phones in the United States, and that’s a shame. You can’t just walk into AT&T or Verizon and get one with an easy payment plan, and let’s be real, that’s going to turn the typical cellphone buyer off.
Judie and I first met while we were guests on a podcast. I loved chatting with her and am grateful that I was able to begin writing for Gear Diary. Last week I was a guest on Pocketnow’s podcast PNWeekly. A longtime Pocketnow reader, I was excited. The conversation was lively and covered a lot of ground. Check it out.
Remember when rose gold was all the rage? We’re trying to forget that time too. Fortunately, Samsung has a new gold color for the Galaxy S9 and S9+ that we can handle – and it’s a “Sunrise Gold”.
Easily one of the best portable tablets I have ever used or reviewed, the Huawei MediaPad M5 (WiFi version) is now available for purchase. Whether you are looking for the 8.4″ version I reviewed, the 10.8″, or the 10.8″ MediaPad M5 Pro, you’ll be able to get yours from Amazon or NewEgg for $319, $359 and $449 respectively.
