Today, the OnePlus 7T goes on sale in the US, and I can safely say that if you’re in the market for a new phone, it should be a front-running contender. Loaded with flagship features, at $599 the 7T is almost a no-brainer. Let’s take a look at why I think this is the best phone for your money.
Berlin’s annual IFA show is the largest consumer electronics event in Europe with “more digital lifestyle products in one place than any other show worldwide.” After walking the show floor, sitting in on private pre-briefings, standing inside packed press conferences, and attending media-only showcase events, these are the items we’ve chosen for Gear Diary’s Best of IFA 2019 Awards.
When Samsung pulled the Galaxy Fold due to some issues with the hinge, they promised that — like Arnold in Terminator — it would be back, and it is!
Until folding phones manufacturers are able to sort out all their devices’ inherent issues, we can look to LG and their Dual Screen solution which we first saw on the V50 ThinQ at MWC. That Dual Screen case option wasn’t available in the US, however. Now we have the LG G8X ThinQ, and yes — it’s coming to the US!
TCL may not be top of mind for smartphones and smartwatches, but they’re hoping to be with a new smartphone and a smartwatch aimed at seniors, both debuting at IFA this week!
EMUI 10 was announced at the Huawei Developer Conference earlier this month. I’ve just returned from a trip to Huawei’s HQ in Shenzhen, China. While there, I was shown what can be expected by this latest update.
Google recently released the latest and final beta of Android Q (version 10 for those keeping track at home) for Pixel devices to test drive prior to the general production release in the coming weeks. I decided to take the plunge with this final beta (Beta 6), and it’s been marvelous!
If the era of the $1000 flagship phone is over, someone forgot to tell Samsung. At their Unpacked event in New York, they introduced their new flagship Note phablet in three varieties, and also highlighted a couple of other recently announced products.
One of the big debates behind the scenes at Gear Diary is whether a tablet makes more sense than a low-end computer like a Chromebook. The consensus is that sometimes you still need a computer, but there’s a lot of potential benefit to a good tablet. Samsung agrees, and they’re throwing all sorts of features into the Android-powered Galaxy Tab S6!
I covered the OnePlus 7 Pro announcement with excitement. This flagship smartphone features a gorgeous 6.67″ AMOLED display; it has a top-of-the-line Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chip, and you can get yours with 6, 8, or 12GB RAM and 128 or 256GB user memory.
It is hard to believe that my Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is nearly a year old already, and it’s still my main daily driver due in large part to the awesome S-Pen. In case it isn’t obvious – I have long since decided I would upgrade to the Note 10 based on the many rumors of enhanced performance, upgraded cameras and AI, and of course the all-new S-Pen features.
If you’re starting the hunt for back to school supplies for your favorite high school or college student, Huawei has some deals for you. Save $200 off their popular MateBook X Pro and MateBook 13, and get $150 off their MateBook D. If you need a tablet, they’ve got $20 to $30 off their MediaPads, including my fave MediaPad M5.
Judie has a Google Pixel 3XL and loves it. And why wouldn’t she? The phone is fast, has a gorgeous screen and, by all reports, has the camera to beat. Currently $699, that’s a good $200 less than it was initially. The Pixel 3a has a similar design, costs just $399, and it is a problem.
The days of having to pay big bucks to get a decent mobile phone are officially over; I’m declaring them dead. We have lots of choices for better than basic phones under $500 now; the Nuu Mobile G3+ is a well-built, unlocked phone with a few compromises, and it is less than $250 with no contracts or obligations. No, really.
If you’ve wanted a capable under $300 Android tablet that also doubles as an Alexa display, you’re going to love the Lenovo Smart Tab P10 2-in-1 Smart Dock. It’s an Amazon Alexa enabled device with a 10.1″ FHD screen, but you can pull the display from the dock and use it separately as a regular Android tablet, too.
We’ve all seen the rumors, and now the OnePlus 7 Pro is a fact! OnePlus has just a released their flagship phone, boasting a gorgeous 6.67-inch Fluid AMOLED display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. It also comes equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset and up to 12 GB of RAM. Perhaps most exciting? No notch and no screen cutouts!*
We’ve been quite impressed with the various phones we’ve reviewed from Honor. Their sleek form factor, powerful processors, fantastic cameras, and implementation of AI have made their offerings stand out in a crowded field. Now Honor is getting ready to unveil their next flagship phone, and they are teasing a special collaboration with Moschino.
In a move that should surprise absolutely nobody, Samsung today announced that their $2,000 Galaxy Fold phone — which apparently had trouble folding repeatedly without breaking — would be on an indefinite hiatus.
Mobile World Congress didn’t disappoint this year; there were so many new smartphones shown, and that’s where the LG G8 ThinQ made its debut. Loaded with tech, the G8 ThinQ is a compact communication device with fantastic sound, better than average cameras, a gorgeous screen, and minimalistic design.
We have been trained over recent years with phones to equate larger phones as being more premium and providing a better experience. Bigger is better as they say. The Samsung Galaxy S10e is here to blow away your ill-conceived perception and show you why it is one of the best phones to come along in many years.
Today’s a big day for mobile platform news because Qualcomm is releasing three of them — the Snapdragon 665, 730, and the 730G (the G is for gaming).
