2014 Lexus IS 350C: Zero to Happy in Just Twenty Seconds

Got 20 seconds? That’s all it takes to transform the 2014 Lexus IS 350C from coupe to convertible, offering consumers the best of both worlds. Lexus first debuted luxury hardtop convertible architecture on the SC model line, and in 2009 brought that technology to its IS sport sedan lineup, shaving two doors but offering it in 250 and 350 form.

Happy Birthday, Ford Mustang! The venerable icon Pony car turns 50 today and there has certainly been plenty of hoopla surrounding the event including placing an all-new 2015 Mustang atop the observation deck of the Empire State Building in New York City. Ford also announced a special edition Mustang at the New York Auto Show this week.

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is Next-Generation Auld Lang Syne

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: “Last but not least,” or “We’ve saved the best for last.” Too late, I’m gonna tell you anyway. My last automotive review of calendar year 2013 was perhaps the most anticipated by not only myself but much of the world as well – the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Coupe.

2014 Volkswagen New Beetle Convertible Lets the Good Times Roll

Continuing in the “then and now” theme begun last week in the Grinding Gears Garage Volkswagen sent us a 2014 Beetle Convertible, along with a week’s worth of sunny weather. Our last look at the Vee Dub droptop saw seven days of stormy weather so we did not get the total experience of just how enjoyable this car is.

Ford Mustang Still Nifty at Nearly 50

Before I had time to unpack from my trip to Dearborn, Michigan to experience Ford’s 2014 product lineup (the one without any Mustang representation), I got a phone call from the local PR office for Big Blue Oval asking if they could deliver a shiny new 2014 Pony car for the week. Uh, yeah… Ford’s Mustang sports car first appeared as the Mustang 1 Concept in 1962. April 17, 2014 will mark the 50th birthday of the iconic production sport…

Hinrichs explained Ford’s recent gains in market share are driven by their product and they are committed to continuing aggressive introduction…

2013 Subaru BRZ is a Driver’s New Best Friend

Car and Driver 10Best; Best of 2103; Ward’s 10 Best Engines 2013; Kiplinger Personal Finance Class Winner – I don’t think Subaru anticipated just how well received the new BRZ sports car would be when co-developing it with partner Scion. Saying the 2013 BRZ from Subaru and its twin FR-S from Scion are big hits is an understatement. With the visit of the Subie recently I have tested models from both automakers, and true to the partnership they are…

2013 Ford Shelby GT500 is All That

OMG has been waiting for a moment like this – the 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 – a car that absolutely epitomizes the philosophy of “shut up and drive.” Oh-My-Gawd! I find difficulty in accurately describing my first experience behind the wheel of the latest Shelby model Mustang save to say that this car is definitely not for everyone and there should probably be required background checks for those wishing to purchase one. It is a beast. It is mean and…

2013 new New Beetle Convertible in the Grinding Gears Garage

Little did I know when I received the keys to the 2013 New Beetle Convertible recently that I would spend most of my week testing it having to defend my manhood. Apparently that is a side effect of driving the fun little droptop, especially when it arrives in the “mellow yellow” that mine did. The 2013 New Beetle Convertible was intended to “man up” Beetle’s image a bit by giving it a bit more masculine design while also removing the “no nukes/save…

Grinding Gears Garage and the MINI John Cooper Works Coupe, for When Cute Wants to Raise a Little Hell

The good thing about MINI cars is they don’t pretend to be anything they are not. The great thing about MINI cars is they deliver everything they promise. And the new MINI Cooper Coupe – specifically the MINI John Cooper Works Coupe – promises to be one of the funnest driving experiences on the road. One thing about MINI Coopers is they are deceptively roomy inside, but with this new Coupe — while seating area is aplenty — headroom is…

Grinding Gears Garage welcomes the 2013 Porsche Boxster, Ambassador for the Middle-Aged Crisis

Lighter, faster, more agile, and, as if it really matters, more fuel-efficient. That is how Porsche describes its next-generation Boxster convertible sports car. The Boxster was a hit from the start and since initial launch Porsche has sought to improve on the initial package while not confusing the car with its bread-and-butter 911 line. The Boxster is a mid-engine two-seater and for 2013 is almost totally madeover. The new design has a longer wheelbase and wider tracks front and rear…
