So You Think You Can Dance, but Can You Attract a Mate?

According to a group of evolutionary biologists at Northumbria University, there are the dance movements that will catch a woman’s eye; in other words, these are the movements that will attract a mate. Can you do them? If not, you’d better get busy. If you nail the moves, we’d love to see your videos. 😉 The biggest difference I see is that the “good” dancer has his head up and he is working his legs and torso; such confidence! Obviously he is an excellent hunter-gatherer who will provide for his prospective spouse and his future family. The “bad” dancer is stuck in…

How Taylor Swift Is Educating the Nation’s Grandpas About Spotify

You may not care about Taylor Swift or her presence on Spotify, but removing all her music from the service has had a curious side effect-it’s educating the average consumer about how little artists make from streaming services! I was in physical therapy this morning and heard two grandfathers discussing Spotify, all because of the publicity from Taylor Swift’s decision.

Why It Matters That Tim Cook Came Out As Gay

Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, has written a heartfelt and beautiful letter in Bloomberg Businessweek coming out as a gay man. If you haven’t read it yet, please stop what you are doing, and read it immediately. It’s been a bit of an open secret for some time, but seeing him put it in writing is quite empowering and courageous.

Ghostbusters Renaissance with Fruit Ninja and a Potential New Movie!

Remember Fruit Ninja? That oddly zen game of thwacking fruit that we all got hooked on in the early days of iOS? Well there’s something strange in the Fruit Ninja Dojo…guess it’s time to call Ghostbusters! Of course, do you call the Famous Original Ghostbusters ,or the future rebooted all-women Ghostbusters? It’s a Ghostbusters renaissance! (A ghostaissance? A renaibust?)

Sarah Silverman Switches Genders for Better Pay

There are two facts most Americans will agree are true: Women typically make $0.78 for every $1.00 men make, and you either find comedienne Sarah Silverman hysterical or offensive. The National Women’s Law Center has struck viral gold by combining these two things into an amazing video where she proposes getting a sex change to make more money.

Last Man Standing’s Tim Allen Earn’s His Ham Radio License

I love the show Last Man Standing. One reason why I love it is Tim Allen’s character, Mike Baxter, is also depicted as being an Ham Radio operator like me. Well, last week at the Hollywood Hamnado special event sponsored in part by the show, it was announced that Tim has truly earned his license and is now KK6OTD.

Best Buy Gets Bested by Improv Everywhere

What happens when 80 people, all dress the same as Best Buy employees– you know, a blue polo and kahki pants– and go into a Best Buy megastore in New York City? That’s what the Improv Everywhere Project wanted to know. So they gathered 80 willing participants, made sure they were all wearing the same thing and sent them into Best Buy one by one.

Todd Pavlisko’s Richard Pryor Portrait Made of Hang Tags

One of the highlights of Kev’s and my recent visit to the Museum of Arts and Design in NYC was the huge Richard Pryor portrait by Todd Pavlisko made of plastic retail hang tags. Pavlisko is a contemporary pop artist known for his “partly facetious tributes to cultural icons in his multi-disciplinary practice, which includes film, installation, painting, and sculpture.” From far away, I thought the pixel-style portrait was made of carpet or some other randomly textured item. Once we got closer, I realized that it was something a bit more interesting … Millions of plastic retail hang tags clustered together by color! I find Todd Pavlisko’s Richard…

Kim Kardashian: Hollywood is Evil and Addictive, Which Is Why We Love It

My name is Carly and I have a very shameful confession: I’ve become hooked on Kim Kardashian: Hollywood. I want to stop, but every time I think it’s over, I duck back in…one more chance to make the A-list. Worse, I’ve dragged Judie into my shame spiral, and now we’re both addicted. At least we both have nice virtual houses.

Yes, Matt Lauer, You Can Be GM’s CEO and Be a Mother, Too!

Are they a good parent? Wait, what?!

H.R. Giger, the Brilliant BioMechanical Artist, Dead at 74

Hans Rudolph Giger, the artist who created the terrifyingly beautiful biomechanical creatures used in the Alien movies, and other weirdly fascinating artwork seen everywhere from the covers of rock albums to video games to tattoos, died yesterday due to complications from a fall suffered at his home; the artist was 74.

Look Up- Viral Video Monday

Last week a friend told me about a video I “NEEDED to watch!” I expected a cute cat video, but instead I got a reminder that “the next best thing to being there” is still a distant second. If you are reading this and haven’t seen the spoken word video Look Up, this video was made for me… And you.
