When we were first contacted about taking a look at the PF Flyers Made in the USA Center Hi custom sneakers, I was immediately interested. I love products made stateside, and it had been years since I had a pair of hi-top sneakers.
These high-end items went further than I expected in style, and I can’t help but be impressed.
When I first pulled the sneakers from the box, I could not help but flash back to my brand named hi-top sneakers of my youth. Those sneakers had a thin canvas upper and a relatively thin and light sole. They offered little support, and weighed next to nothing. The Unisex Made in the USA Center Hi look similar, but these are an entirely different animal. I could not believe the quality, sturdy build and degree of support they offered.
They are made from 14-ounce heavyweight canvas that looks… and feels… substantial. These sneakers immediately look like serious business. When you pick them up they also feel like serious, substantial business. And the thick sole adds to the retro-modern effect.
As the company explains:
The Made in USA Center Hi merges retro athletic style with the lush comfort of a contemporary running shoe through a premium performance insert that rests atop of a DESMA injected PU midsole, providing inherent cushioning. The shoe is made out of 14 oz. heavy weight canvas, with a lux leather toe cap and eye-row, and rich pig skin lining. Inspired by the timeless Center Hi branding from the 1960’s, the style features a hand drawn midsole stripe, hand-stamped tongue branding, 100% cotton laces and a premium debossed ankle patch.
What makes these custom sneakers special is the hand-drawn midsole stripe and hand-stamped tongue branding. And while others may or may not notice these two custom features you can’t help but feel good putting on sneakers that are, to a certain degree, a work of art.
