PAX Era: The On-Demand Slim Extract Vaporizer Ready for Medical Use

If you live in the state of California, and if you have a prescription for medical marijuana, there is a new product that you should pay attention to — the PAX Era Extract Vaporizer. when used with Bloom Farms extract pods, this on-demand vaporizer makes administering your prescription as simple as taking a puff.

I was sent a Pax Era and a properly marked Bloom Farms (yet non-Cannabis containing) pod so I could see how the vaporizer works. I’ll have to admit that it was a little surprising to open the package and find this:

Rest assured, the pod did not contain Cannabis; it’s some kind of bubble-gum flavored vaporizer blend.

What you need to know about the PAX Era

The PAX Era works only with extract pods, so it will not work with loose-leaf herbs. Included in the box are the vaporizer, a quick start guide with safety guidelines and warranty information, a registration card, a PAX sticker, and information about the PAX Vapor App available in the Apple App Store and Google Play.

The Era is an incredibly light and thin vaporizer; composed of bead-blasted aluminum, the Era measures about 3.25″ long (without its pod) and 0.7″ wide by 0.4″ thick, and the Era weighs 0.5 ounces. It is very discreet and pocketable; with the pod inserted it is ~4 long.

Charging time for the Era’s 2,600mAh battery is about 60 minutes through the microUSB port on its bottom; as you charge, the four petals on the Era’s X will glow with white LEDs as the charge commences.

What sets the Era apart from all other vaporizers I’ve tried, beyond its smallness, is that there is no on/off button. The Era is an on-demand vaporizer, which means that when you need to use it, you simply take a puff and it will immediately deliver your prescription.

As I mentioned, I was sent a bubble-gum flavored Pod, so I was able to plug it into the Era to see how the vaporizer performs. I have to admit that it was a big change to not have to turn a vaporizer on or off much less spend time figuring out which temperature I needed it to operate at. When a Pod is inserted in the fully charged PAX Era, using the vaporizer is a simple matter of raising it to your mouth and drawing in; the vaporizer immediately works, and the vapor produced is pretty amazing.

You can pair your PAX Era with the PAX app by opening the app and shaking the Era until the LEDs glow blue. With the PAX app, you can customize the settings on your vaporizer.

If you aren’t connected to the app, any time you are curious about remaining battery life, you can gently shake the Era, and white LEDs will glow indicating remaining battery life in quarters; e.g., four petals glowing means 75 – 100%, one petal glowing means 25% or less.

It is possible to enhance and adjust your pod flavor profile by adjusting the vaporizer’s temperature setting manually. Once a pod is installed, you follow these three steps:

  1. Shake the device – the indicator will show the current battery level
  2. Remove the pod – the indicator will first show the current temperature setting and then it will cycle through all available temperature settings.
  3. Reinsert the pod when your preferred temperature setting is indicated; the indicator will pulse to confirm the temperature change.

One green LED means the temperature is low, two yellow LEDs mean that the temperature is medium-low, three orange LEDs mean that the temperature is medium-high, and four red LEDs mean that the temperature is high.

The PAX Era is also able to track the number of puffs you’ve taken. To figure this out, you’ll

  1. Double-tap the PAX Era
  2. Count the number of LED colors; that’s the number of puffs you’ve taken in the session, e.g., two green LEDs means two puffs, three green LEDs with a blue LED means 5 puff, and two blue with two red LEDs means 10 puffs.

The PAX Era sells for $59.99, and it comes with a one-year warranty.
