Qualcomm Brings More Brains, More Power, and More AI with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, X Elite, and Seamless!

It’s been a slow process, but the Internet of Things is finally paying off, and suddenly, it feels like everything has an internet connection and a smart assistant. Everyone loves it when their cutting board has an app to critique their knife skills, but it does mean your phone has to do a lot more heavy lifting, and the brains and brawn behind that come from Qualcomm!

Snapdragon X Elite

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon does more than just power our phones; it can also help make our PCs run faster and smarter. Snapdragon X Elite is there to push AI on PCs to new levels. It can handle over 13 billion parameters on a PC and process 4.5x faster than the competition.

On-device AI is a big piece of the future, and Qualcomm sees it hitting not only PCs but also more phones and other devices in the future. Look for it to start powering PCs in mid-2024.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

Don’t worry; AI won’t only be trapped on your PC. Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processors will be hitting flagship Android phones soon, and generative AI is a big part of what they’ll bring to the table. In addition to AI, the new Snapdragons will also bring more power for gaming, cameras, studio-quality audio, and, of course, high-speed connectivity!

Snapdragon Seamless

Look, it’s not a joke anymore-everything really is connected. And Qualcomm wants to make that connectivity feel smoother and simpler with Snapdragon Seamless. If you have devices powered by Snapdragon (and chances are, you do!), these devices can work together no matter what operating system they use.

The idea is that headphones will follow the audio source, keyboards will easily move from tablet to PC, and even files can move more smoothly between devices. Microsoft, Android, Xiaomi, Asus, Honor, Lenovo, and OPPO are all working with Qualcomm on this new initiative, which means the truly interconnected future is closer than we think!

Qualcomm may not be the flashy name you think of when you think of smartphones, but they’re the ones making sure your smartphone is truly smart!

  1. Qualcomm’s on-device AI will probably see widespread use on Android, but on Windows, it still has the problem that their processors can only run all the existing x86 programs in emulation, and Qualcomm and Microsoft haven’t gotten far with getting people to use Windows on Arm. Intel and AMD aren’t standing still either. IIRC, they’re going to add AI acceleration to their processors.
