Usually, when I write a review, I end up liking, disliking, or feeling ambivalent about the product. Even when a product isn’t something I need or might use, I can understand the target audience and give it a fair review. Even so, I’ve struggled while reviewing the Wristcam for Apple Watch, but not for the usual reasons.
Security and Privacy
There are plenty of good reasons people develop a fondness for a particular brand; maybe it’s because the company’s hardware is always top-notch, their pricing is reasonable, or they have excellent customer service when something goes wrong. But the singular feature that’s made it hard for me to consider using any smartphone other than a Google Pixel as my daily driver isn’t related to hardware, pricing, or customer service. As I mentioned in our Google Pixel 4, Pixel 4a, and Pixel 5 reviews, beyond Pixel’s excellent cameras and pure Android experience, their killer feature is Call Screen.
Now that I’m a bit older, I’m learning the true value of privacy and security. Some friends in my crypto group discussed how they secure their valuables, and the subject of safes was a big one. So I started researching simple yet solid safes that I can store safely but didn’t stick out like a sore thumb. Enter the Yale Laptop Alarmed Value Safe.

There are many reasons why you might want to have one or more cameras in certain rooms of your home, like entrances, common areas, or the nursery when you’ve got a baby. The Google Nest Cam IQ Indoor aims to not only help you keep a close eye on the people coming and going in those areas, but it also allows you to communicate with them.
Home security is something everyone worries about. It’s become much more accessible with internet-connected cameras, doorbells, and smart homes that don’t require paying for a monitoring service or having a professional installation. This is great, except it still leaves one big issue to consider: privacy. How secure is it to have cameras in your home? Are you sure they’re not recording when you don’t want them to? Arlo has an easy solution to all your worries with the new Arlo Essential Indoor Camera with Automated Privacy Shield!
I’m all-in on the Arlo ecosystem, so I was pleased to see that they have two new products showing at CES including the Arlo Essential Indoor Camera and the Arlo Touchless Video Doorbell. Both sound intriguing, but we don’t yet have a lot of details.
We all have certain personal, medicinal, or otherwise private items that we’d prefer not to be easily discovered by curious children, snoopy coworkers, or opportunistic strangers; the TROVA GO can help. Marketed as a discreet biometric smart storage vessel, the TROVA GO is compact, intelligent, and secure.
Home security is no longer only the realm of expensive monthly subscriptions but something you can install and monitor yourself if you wish. Comcast Xfinity has your back with a new program called Self Protection that lets you monitor your front door/back door/dog in the kitchen, all with continuous recording for only $10/month.
Our friends at Ring announced a bunch of really cool new products today that already have the internet buzzing. The most surprising of them all is the Always Home Cam, an autonomous drone that will fly around your house, allowing you to check on multiple rooms while you’re out. Check out the rest of the 2021 Ring lineup below.
Arlo makes one of the best DIY home security systems that you can buy, and I’m excited that they’ve just announced two new wire-free devices in their Essential Series, the Arlo Essential XL Spotlight and the Arlo Essential. What sets the Essential Series apart from their Pro series is that these devices connect directly to your home’s WiFi, with no need for a SmartHub, and they can act as a standalone security solution or complement your existing Arlo home security system.
Since we’ve been home for the last few months, we’ve attempted to make our apartment a bit smarter and a bit more secure; the Friday Smart Lock was an intriguing, non-permanent solution for our front door.
Last year, I reviewed the Arlo Pro 3 2K QHD Wire-Free Security Camera System, which is still going strong. One of the best things about the Arlo wireless system is how easy it is to set up and how customizable the app has been over time as my specific needs have changed. The Arlo system is, of course, expandable, and I recently added the new Arlo Pro 3 Floodlight Camera.
The powers that be are often at risk of showing up in public without a suit or bodyguards. Sometimes, this is due to real security issues; sometimes, it’s just a common whim. But nothing will provide a better feeling of protection as your very own, personal armored car with proper features/characteristics and, of course, at a reasonable price.
Home security cameras are quickly becoming a commodity these days, and they all follow the same basic formula – the more you pay, the more you get. The Hoop Cam Plus seemingly breaks that mold by offering a very affordable camera that is attractive, easy to both operate, and setup that even includes panning and tilt in its feature list. The Hoop Cam Plus has no right to be this good for this price, and I’ve been impressed with how good it truly has been.
August Home, one of the leaders of smart and secure front door solutions announced today their long-awaited August Wi-Fi Smart Lock is now available.
Cameras are all around us in these modern times, and many people use them to keep track of their kids, dogs or even their properties. One of the biggest issues faced when using an outdoor camera is having to run a wire for power, so the Kami Wire-Free Outdoor Camera by Yi provides an alternative by relying only on rechargeable batteries.
If you’ve been watching the number of data breaches rise in recent years, you’ve probably reinforced your data security systems. Hopefully, you also have a strict set of rules that govern data storage and how that data is accessed by employees and contractors.
Maybe you’ve lost packages to porch-pirates, or maybe you have a stalker ex; perhaps you live in an isolated area, and you need to know what’s going on when you’re not home. For those reasons and many more, adding security cameras around your home’s perimeter can give you peace of mind, and the Arlo Pro 3 system is a great choice to consider.
There are a ton of security cameras on the market these days, many of which charge monthly fees for you to access your own security camera recordings. My favorite thing about eufy Security is that their devices have excellent features and great quality video without charging cloud fees since all of your data is stored locally.
